What is ORCID? (from the ORCID website: (http://orcid.org): ORCID is an open, non-profit,
community-based effort to provide a registry of unique researcher identifiers and a transparent
method of linking research activities and outputs to these identifiers. ORCID is unique in its
ability to reach across disciplines, research sectors, and national boundaries and its cooperation
with other identifier systems. To see more about ORCID and what it is, go here:
http://orcid.org/content/initiative
Why use ORCID? A: To uniquely identify you and your work. ASCE will eventually be able to
send your ORCID information with your manuscript when it is published. You and others will be
able to track your work using the ORCID database.
How to get an ORCID using Editorial Manager:
1) Log In to your Editorial Manager profile. You will need to repeat this process for each separate
journal on which you have a profile.
2) Click on Update My Information in the top navigation bar.
3) Scroll down in your profile until you see this:
4) Click on the Fetch/Register Link. Please do it this way, as opposed to typing your ORCID – this
will authenticate your ID using the ORCID system.
5) IF YOU ALREADY HAVE an ORCID login, please login to the ORCID site when the window opens.
6) If you don’t have an ORCID, fill out the registration fields on the right side of the screen.
7) On the next screen, click “Authorize” to connect Editorial Manager with your ORCID account.
8) After you authorize, ORCID should auto‐fill the ORCID field in Editorial Manager
9) After your ORCID is authenticated in Editorial Manager, you can click on the ID link at any time
to get into the ORCID system to update your ORCID profile.
If you have questions, please contact your ASCE Editorial Coordinator by clicking the “Contact Us”
link in Editorial Manager. You can also email Liz Guertin at eguertin@asce.org.
