S.M.A.R.T. GOALS WORKSHEET Crafting S.M.A.R.T. Goals are designed to help you identify if what you want to achieve is realistic and determine a deadline. When writing S.M.A.R.T. Goals use concise language, but include relevant information. These are designed to help you succeed, so be positive when answering the questions. Your assignment is to develop 4 SMART goals. You will be submitting this assignment via CANVAS to your instructor by the deadline of Friday, October 29th. Color code each Goal to help keep your goals organized. I would like these goals to be focused in the both academic and personal. Student Name: Samantha Borjas CPD150 INITIAL GOALS Write the goals you have in mind 1. Travel to NYC 2. Transfer to a University 3. Experience living on my own (Becoming Independent) 4. Start a business S What do you want to accomplish? Who needs to be included? When do you want to do this? Why is this a goal? 1. I want to travel to NYC. While I'm visiting I'd like to visit tourist attractions and enjoy the food this amazing city has to offer. I would like to visit the city with a friend or a relative. I want to accomplish this goal by early 2022. I would prefer that I visit NYC during the winter because it is my favorite season. This is one of my goals because I have never traveled anywhere on the east coast. 2. I would like to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. I should be the only person included in this goal because it is up to me to finish my schooling. I would like to first finish my 2 years at Phoenix College and then look into transferring to a university. This is a goal of mine because my career of choice (therapist) requires a Social Work degree. SPECIFIC 3. I want to lease an apartment. I would prefer to lease an apartment with a relative or trusted friend. I don't think I'm comfortable with leasing an apartment on my own yet. I think that I would rather see how it is living with a roommate before taking the big step of leasing an apartment on my own. This is a goal of mine because I want to push myself to become more independent and not have to depend so much on my parents. 4. I want to start a business. I don't specifically know what I want to sell in my business. Some ideas I have include handmade clothing, beauty items, reselling my own clothing, or baked goods. I'd feel more comfortable starting locally before going through with my own website. This is a goal of mine because I have always been interested in the creative and marketing aspects of starting a business. M How can you measure progress and know if you’ve successfully met your goal? 1. My goal is to save up a total of $3,000-5,000 for a 3 day trip. I would prefer to travel with a partner so expenses can be split up evenly between one another. The rest of our own money could be spent on ourselves or souvenirs. I'd like to save up $20 dollars each week leading up to my desired travel date. I would be able to measure my progress by using the envelope budgeting system. This system allows you to physically portion your monthly income according to different categories (food, fun, self-care, travel, clothing, shoes). I would be able to tell that I have successfully met my goal by reaching a total of $3,000-5,000 in budgeting savings. 2. I would be able to measure my progress by making sure I pass all of my classes with AC. My main priority should be to maintain a good GPA that could get me into my dream University. I would be able to tell that I have successfully met my goal by passing all my classes at PC with good grades and getting into the University of my choice. MEASURABLE 3. I would first like to start off by looking for a reliable roommate. Then, I'd like to find a job that could provide me with an income that would allow me to afford my rent and other living expenses. I would be able to measure my progress by using the envelope budgeting system. This system would allow me to save up for the first few months of rent for my apartment. I would be able to tell that I have successfully met my goal by reaching the total amount of budgeting savings needed for my rent. 4. I would first like to save up enough money in order to fully fund my business expenses. Then I'd like to start off small with my inventory before ordering bigger amounts of supplies. I would be able to measure my progress by using the envelope budgeting system. I've used this system previously when trying to save up for concert tickets or even luxury goods for myself. I can confirm this method has worked very well with me. I would be able to tell that I have successfully met my goal by reaching the total amount of budgeting savings needed to kick-off my small business A Do you have the skills required to achieve the goal? If not, can you obtain them? What is the motivation for this goal? Is the amount of effort required on par with what the goal will achieve? ACHIEVABLE 1. I believe I have the skills required to achieve my goal. I have prior experience to saving up money for out-of-state travel. My main motivation for this goal is to be able to enjoy my time on the East Coast. I have never traveled to the East Coast before so it would be a new experience for me. The amount of effort required is definitely on par with what the goal will achieve. I think that all the time I spent saving up my money will pay off as I enjoy my time in a new state/city. 2. I believe I have the skills required to achieve my goal. I see myself working hard and putting all the effort necessary to graduate and work in my career of choice. My main motivation for this goal is that I am a first generation college student. The amount of effort required is definitely on par with what the goal will achieve because my family will be proud of me as well as myself. 3. I don’t think that I have the skills required to achieve my goal. Currently, I’m working a medium wage job and I don’t think I’d be able to afford rent as it is extremely expensive in Arizona. I think I would have to search for a job that would give me the income necessary to obtain this goal. My main motivation for this goal is my parents. My parents from a young age were very independent and I’d like to show them and myself that I have what it takes to be on my own. The amount of effort required is definitely on par with what the goal will achieve because it will display that I am fully capable of being on my own. 4. I don’t think that I have the skills required to achieve my goal. Starting a business has been something I never fully thought of. I feel this is a goal that is very time consuming and requires full attentiveness. In order to proceed with this goal I feel I would have to ask for advice from other small business or business students. The amount of effort required is definitely on par with what the goal will achieve because it is self-rewarding. R Why am I setting this goal now? Is it aligned with my overall objectives? 1. I am setting this goal now because it’s been a while since I have traveled due to the pandemic. I believe my goal is aligned with my overall objectives because I am fully capable of planning and budgeting a trip out-of-state. 2. I am setting this goal now because it is my first year at PC. I believe my goal is aligned with my overall objectives because I need to start to think about the classes necessary to transfer to the university of my choice, RELEVANT 3. I am setting this goal now because at one point in my life I will need to stop depending on my parents. I believe my goal does not align with my overall objectives currently. I see myself moving out and living independently during my last two years of college. I think that as of right now my education should come first before anything. 4. I am setting this goal now because I see myself starting a business in the future. Starting a business requires a lot of consideration and I think now is prime when doing my research. I believe my goal does not align with my overall objectives currently. I would feel comfortable starting a business when I have done thorough research on all aspects of starting and managing a business. T What’s the deadline and is it realistic? TIME-BOUND SMART GOAL 1. Early 2022. I believe this deadline might not be realistic. When planning a big trip to NYC budgeting should be planned months in advance. 2. Junior/Senior year of college. I believe this deadline is realistic. I think that I will feel comfortable moving out on my own when I'm older and financially stable. 3. May of 2025. I believe this deadline is realistic. I understand that it will take a lot of time and effort to reach my goal. 4. After college graduation. I believe this deadline is realistic. I would have more time on my hands to focus on starting and managing my business.
