March 8, 2022 Thank you so much for spending the day with my class when I am unable to be there. If you have any questions Kendall and Alessandra are pretty good with daily routines and classroom questions (of course everyone else is a second-grade expert too)! If you have any other questions about the day you can ask any other second grade teacher. Debbie Pincus is the first classroom in the hallway. 8:30 - Greet the students at the door. - They will come in and begin unpacking - Make sure to remind students to hand in math homework and word study notebooks. Once unpacked they can work on March Madness color by code - Morning jobs will be completed during this time. - Please remind students to hand in library books o Have messengers (Alexa, Emma A.) bring down to library Attendance - You can either call in the attendance count or send a sticky note to the office. The messengers can take any notes down to the office. **If they are taking a longer time on the color by code morning work you can start the morning meeting later. 9:05 Morning Meeting - You can call students up to do their jobs in the morning meeting area, but have the rest of the students remain at their seats. o Calendar Date 10 more than that number Odd or even Days of week Tomorrow will be Yesterday was o Weather What should we wear at recess? Make sure they show number model and answer. o Have volunteers share how they got their answer. - Math Message (TE pg. 534) o Hand out counting pocket slips. o Have students follow directions to complete Math Message - Tallying Pocket Charts (TE pg. 534-535) o Show on ELMO how to complete tally chart o Students will be completing along with you in Math Journal Volume 2 pg. 133 o Follow teacher’s edition for teaching about tally charts. - Drawing a picture graph (TE pg. 535) o Show on ELMO how to complete picture graph o Students will be completing along with you in Math Journal Volume 2 pg. 134 o Follow teacher’s edition for teaching about picture graphs. - Drawing a Bar Graph (TE pg. 536) o Tell children they will use the pocket chart data shown on their picture graph to make a bar graph. o Then have students independently complete Math Journal pg. 135 o Check together when most students are finished. Fast Finishers/Extra Time: Students may go into Google Classroom and click on Boddle (math website) link. They will complete assignment on website. 10:05 – 10:20 Snack - Students can sit in their snack spots and have a quiet snack. Have them bring a book to read quietly when they are done eating. 10:20 – 11:00 Readers Workshop (Making Inferences) - Have students come to the carpet. - Remind them that the author does not always tell the reader everything in the words of the book. Good readers have to use their schema and the clues from the words and pictures to make an inference about what is happening in the story. - Read “The Stray Dog” o Stop on the page marked with a sticky note. o There are no words on this page, but it seems like Willy is in a big hurry. o Why is he in such a big hurry? And how do you know? What clues is the author giving you. Have students go back to their seats to complete worksheet. o After enough students have the chance to finish call students back to carpet and finish reading the story. - Students made read from their book bins after read aloud. 11:00 – 11:40 Spanish - Senor Sanchez will come into the classroom for Spanish - Enjoy the peace and quiet!! 11:40 – 12:20 Writing - Tell students nonfiction writers make sure their writing is easy to read by using their knowledge of words to fix misspelled words. - Today, as you are writing make sure to look out for words, they you could sound out better or use what you have learned about different spelling patterns to help you spell words. - Students can continue working on their nonfiction books. o They can sit around the classroom as long as they are quietly working. 12:20 – 1:20 Lunch/Recess - Mrs. Souza will come and get the class at 12:20. She will bring them back after recess at 1:20. 1:20 – 1:35 D.E.A.R. - Students will read from their book bins at their desks. - Please remind Tuesday’s group that they will be book shopping from our classroom library 1:40 – 2:15 Library - Lucky YOU! 2 specials today! Walk the class to library - Enjoy the peace and quiet 2:15 – 2:40 Word Study - Students can work on doubling the final consonant worksheet - Remind them to use the 1-1-1 Rule in their word study notebook to make sure they need to double the final consonant. Fast Finishers: Students may go into Google classroom and click on Spelling City link to practice words. 2:40 – 2:50 Read a chapter from Wayside School (students may stay at their desks). 2:50 – 3:00 Pack up - Pass out math homework - Have students put math homework in green McGinn folder - Make sure they have their word study notebooks - Then call groups to pack up. 3:00 Students will line up for dismissal 3:08 Walk to door 10 to wait for bell to dismiss students - Emerson and Noah can walk down to the JCC 3:10 Dismissal - Make sure students who are dismissed through door 10 give you a high five before sending them to their parent.
