Instructions
The Placement Test is designed to be used before students begin using the Student’s Book. It checks students’ knowledge
of the key language areas taught in each unit of every level of the Student’s Book, from Elementary to Upper Intermediate.
It is intended to indicate the level of Student’s Book and starting point within each level that is most appropriate for
each student.

Allow a maximum of 30 minutes for the test. Photocopy one copy of the Question Sheet and one copy of the Answer
Sheet for each student. Ask students to write their answers directly onto the Answer Sheet. You may wish to discourage
students from making notes on the Question Sheet in order for the tests to be used again.
Students should do the tests on their own under exam conditions. After 30 minutes, collect the Question Sheets and
Answer Sheets in and correct them, marking each student’s score at the bottom of their Answer Sheets.
The test gets progressively more difficult. You can advise students to stop the test if the questions are too difficult for
them. Discourage students from guessing.
