Without a doubt, Roank Mohanty uses heartbreaking emotions to persuade the audience to side with stricter gun control. Mohanty utilizes an example of a public threat like the North Kingstown High School student who threatened to bring a gun into the school and kill his fellow students, but luckily, the authorities took care of the situation (Mohanty, 2020). The fact that schools, a safe place for youth individuals to grow, are vulnerable to public shootings is how Mahanty describes the effects of the lack of gun control in the United States. Mahanty used these types of public threats to signal to the audience that gun violence in the United States is growing rapidly and harms the American people, such as public shootings that kill or severely injure loved ones. For this act of public endangerment, Mahanty presents the dramatic need to limit the types of weapons citizens are allowed to own, such as assault rifles like Ar-15s and Ak-47s (Mohanty, 2020).
