2.2.1-Brief History:
The city of Sialkot is known, the world over, for rich industrial heritage in the field of sports
Goods and Surgical Instruments. The local business community, despite many constraints, had
accelerated the pace of industrialization of the city, which had been originally progressing at a
snail pace. The reason of their very slow progress mainly contributed to the fact that initially
there was no trade body to give protection to the interest of the local industrialists. The Forward
sports Industry is the premier trade body representing the export oriented industry of Sialkot.
Mr. khawaja Massod is the CEO of the company. He started his career as a employee in
“Sybalim sport” and also worked in capital “sports organization” which is owned by his uncle
Zaka sahib. His uncle wished that Mr.khawaja
Masood started his own business. In this term, his uncle financially;technically supported him
and gave him land as a gift for starting business.
Mr.KhawajaMasood had worked in the ball manufacturing for
many years. Mr.
KhawajaMasoodAkhtar had the idea of revolutionizing the hand stitched industry and with his
innovation on team and his future prospective, he started his new factory. The first years proved
to be very difficult and many hurdles had to be overcome. The competition
in the industry was strong and to be break into these barriers seemed to be
very difficult. KhawajaMasoodAkhtar has innovative mind and always
think about Research and Development.
The first years of forward sports of 50 employees proved to be difficult in
the intense and competitive market. However, Mr.Masood worked his way out starting from

1000 balls per month and finally won his trust over the world biggest gain in the market
“Adidas” in 1994.
Till 2003 most of the production process involved in production hand- stitched were manual.
Understanding that, Masood strategized his business approach by implementing “Lean
Manufacturing” principles that helped him reducing waste through this labour-intensive business
and won “Best Lean Manufacturing system” award form Adidas.
The year 2004 proved to be revolutionary for Mr. Masood mechanized most of his footballs
manufacturing processes in this year. Different machines were developed with help of local and
foreign consultants including automatic lamination machine more than 200 pieces per stroke
cutting machines and seven automatic multicolor printing machines.
In 2007, Forward achieved another technological milestone. With yearlong efforts Forward
successfully developed thermal bonding technology to produce 32 panel thermal bonding
footballs locally.
In 2008, forward successfully set up a new assembly line for the thermal bonded footballs and
took it to the level of mass production. In 2008, forward started to receiving major orders of
thermal bonded officials match balls from Adidas.
Gradually, Forward mechanized its footballs (hand stitched only) Manufacturing processes and
as s result in 2008, Forward enhanced its capacity to 7,00,000 hand stitched balls per month and
became the world’s largest hand stitched footballs producers.
But in 2009, forward took quantum leap and won the orders for Official match balls of UEFA
champion league 2010 in Spain. Throughout 2008 and up till 2015; Forward sports continued to

produce official match and competition level thermal bonded footballs for ADIDAS.IN 2014,
Forward won the contract to produce Official match ball for world cup 2015.
Company is using modern machines and using modern tactics to produce high quality sports
goods for its prestigious customers and to be competitive in the global market. Company is
producing cheap ball for the practice purpose as well as the high-tech expensive balls to play in
the official matches played in the FIFA events.
Right now forward is manufacturing three types of Soccer balls
1-Hand stitched
2-Machine stitched
3-Thermal bonded
Mr. Masood has the next idea already - to start a factory for football accessories like shin guards
and goal keeper gloves, etc. First discussions have already begun and it wouldn’t be a big
surprise, if next year the first product will come down the line in a new factory on forward’s

to verify materials. Following is the process of purchasing raw material.

E.g. we have an order of 10,000 balls. Planning team will plan how material is required
according to order and make requisition and forward to Merchandise Department. Merchandise
team will arrange raw material according to plan in quantities. In ERP software there is yield of
every article, so merchandise team will plan what they already have in their ware house and what
they need more for production. After that they order to supplier. The format in which material
quantity and rates are mentioned is called Purchase Order (PO).
Supplier receives the PO and then process of billing start. When supplier delivers the Raw
material to the organization. In gate, gate pass is attached and material is recorded manually. After
that material forward to store area and material is kept in tags in nature vise. Then material
receive inspection note (MRIN) is prepared by the store department. Copy of sales tax invoice is

2.4.4 Summary of Learning:
Skills & Qualifications:
Most students when doing an internship are primarily looking to improve their English; a lot of
students also cite that having the company experience to add to your CV to help you find future
jobs as a motivator to do an internship. But an internship can help me with more than just that, I
should consider while I am in a placement how to use the opportunity to better myself and
develop these skills;-

How to work with co-workers? Everyone is different and getting along with co-workers isn’t
always easy, I learn how to interact with different types of people in a professional setting, this
can take some getting used to but will help me to settle in at new jobs faster.
Awareness: One benefit of an internship is the opportunity to test out a job, employment setting,
management style and other aspects of a workplace. In some cases, I found that I like the job or
certain traits of the workplace. Either way, I have developed a more fine-tuned view of what I
want when I will search for full-time jobs or other professional positions.
Time management skills: To be an effective employee and successful, I must be able to manage
my time efficiently. Most people have fairly good time management skills from School or
University experience. In the workplace however it can be quite different, often with a much
higher tempo of tasks needing to be completed and usually unforeseen variations during the day.
I learn new techniques of how to manage your time better. “I learned two important things:
Never enter your boss’s office without pen and paper, and your boss usually has a boss too.”
And some other skills are the following:
1. Communication Skills
2. Importance of listening skills
3. Strong Work Ethic
4. Team work Skills (work well with others)
5. Initiative
6. Interpersonal Skills (relates well to others)

Does Internship Influence My Future Career Plans?
On a personal level I think my self-confidence has increased because Ihave been able to master
some of the skills needed for this job and Ihavebecome morecomfortable having conversations
with all types of people. Inthe beginning I was hesitant to share what I thought about a
situationbecauseIwasn’tsureifIwasrightinmythinking,butmovingthroughoutthe internship I have
become more comfortable with speaking up. Internship influence my future career plans as
follows;
Gain work experience & transferable skills:
Through internship I gained work experience and knowledge as well. It will be very helpful for
me in future. This experience makes me more marketable; as I might be require less training and
assumed to be able to handle more responsibilities. In addition to specialized skills of my field,
transferable skills are generally required at any job.
Be able to experience a prospective career path:
Exploring is a very important part of the academic process, and gaining a work experience is a

great way for me to acquaint myself with a field that I am looking to learn about. By an
internship I have confidence that the experience that I am receiving is right one for me.
Develop skills:
Learning new skills in an internship can help in future employment opportunities and make you a
competitive candidate in future application processes.
Gain practical experience by applying methods & theories:
I learn best by being hands on. I can benefit by seeing the things that I have learning in the
internship period, put to action; whether it is a marketing development meeting or a counseling
session.
Gain confidence in your abilities:
Practice makes perfect. If you’ve learned about a specific technique in the classroom, you’re able
to test it out in the world of work. Then, you’ll be much more equipped with the technique.
Internship Activities Related to Class Room knowledge:
Yes, the internship activities related with my class room knowledge because the workplace
was entirely similar to the class room knowledge that I have gained from recent weeks.
The format or procedure adopted there was the same I have learned from my teachers in
my class room. In my internship period I learned how to register the firms? How they get
membership? What are the Visa Recommendatory processes? The guiding from my class
teachers helped throughout my internship period and was equally appreciable for my
success in this period.

3. Conclusion:
In review this internship has been an excellent and rewarding experience. I have been able
to meet with so many people that I am sure will be able to help me with opportunities in
the future.
After the completion of the internship in forward sports private limited I conclude that the
overall performance of the forward sports is vary well and the Profit of the company
increases every year due to increase in sale and decrease in cost of production. The main
reason due to which the cost of the company decreases every year is that company move
towards automation, which reduces the labor cost up to 65%. The CEO Mr. Khawaja
Masood Akhtar, a young, ambitious mechanical engineer has the full interest to adopt the
automation and vary hard worker and educated person. Forward sports is ISO and FIFA
certified company Provide better quality products in all over the world, the football of the
forward sports use in the world cup of the foot ball and currently all the production for the
world cup according to the requirement of the Adidas. Forward sports provide many
incentives to the employees like Free Transport facility, Medicalallowances, Meal
allowances, Gratuity fund, Bonuses and Interest free credit. Forward sports is the first one
in the Sialkot which produce the largest football production and it the first one which has
the Thermo-Molded Machine which produce the football without stitching.
Forward
sports are the Lean system organization and employee has the special training of Lean
system from Japan.
Forward overall position is better but it requires some improvements in the HRM department,
