Myopia
Hello, today I'm going to talk about the problem of myopia in children
In 2020, the overall myopia rate among Chinese children is 52.7%; 35.6% for elementary, 71.1%
for middle school students, and 80.5% for high school students. This is an unbelievable number,
there are so many Chinese students are already nearsighted. South Korea, Japan, Singapore,
and China - have the highest myopia rates in the world.
Looking around, how many people in our classroom are wearing glasses? As you can see,
there are more people in our class who wear glasses. We have only four students in this
classroom who do not wear glasses, and the number of people who wear glasses is six out of
ten, which is more than half of the entire class
Some people may think that wearing glasses is a normal thing, and some may even think that
people who wear glasses are cool or they are knowledgeable. They think that wearing glasses
or not is nothing to be concerned about, But they are totally wrong!
I've been wearing glasses since I was very young, and I can't live without my glasses every day;
as a person who wears glasses, I deeply feel the inconvenience and trouble of wearing glasses,
and you who wear glasses must have the same feelings as me.
When I don't have glasses, I can't see when people greet me, and I can't recognize the wrong
person when I greet them. Every time I go to eat something hot, my glasses are full of fog; from
the air conditioning room out of the time is also. When I run, I sweat and need to use my hands
to hold my glasses. Every morning when I get up,Im lokking for my glasses, I can deeply feel
how does blind feel. Getting a haircut, watching 3D movies, swimming, playing in water parks,
eating something hot, rafting, riding a bike with a helmet, even running... these are all
inconveniences that plague us in our daily lives when we wear glasses.
If you take a look of my glasses, you will be surprised by the thickness of its lenses. As a person
with super high myopia, I can't do roller coasters, I can't bungee jump, and there are too many
things I want to do that I can't do because of my high myopia. If I do those things, my retina will
probably detach, which means blind and can’t be healed anymore
I believe that you know how serious myopia is now. Using electronic devices and reading books
for very long time are damaging our eyes. But as time goes on, more and more things need to
be done on our computers or phones. It is inevitable that we use electronic devices at school or
at home. What we can do to protect our eyes is not to stop using electronic devices and stop
reading and studying any longer.
Protecting our eyes is a concern that every one of us students should take seriously.our
eyesight changes mainly before we become adults. An adult's eyesight does not change much
relatively speaking. Rather, we can control the amount of time we spend on each use, for
example, by reducing the amount of time we spend on ins and tiktok. When studying on the
computer for a long time, every hour, get up and take a walk to look at the distance, which will
help our eyes relax. Avoid reading a book or looking at your phone in a moving car. In addition,
the most important thing is getting enough sleep and avoid to stay up late. Take outdoor
activities to increase our blood flow, let our tired eyes relax.
It is not a difficult task, as long as we always pay attention to our eye habits in our daily life, so
that students who are not nearsighted can prevent myopia well and those who are already
nearsighted can prevent myopia from deepening.
As long as we all do this together, we can see this beautiful world more clearly.
Thank you for listening!
