Republic of the Philippines Department of Education Region IV-A CALABARZON DIVISION OF BATANGAS Dr. Bonifacio A. Masilungan National High School Lalayat, San Jose, Batangas Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 7 Content Standards: The learners demonstrate an understanding of: - Organisms interacting with each other and with their environment to survive. Performance Standards: The learners shall be able to: - Conduct a collaborative action to preserve the ecosystem in the locality. I. II. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to: Identify and describe the different ecological relationship existing in an ecosystem. (S7LT-IIh-10) Give examples of different ecological relationship existing in an ecosystem. Describe and appreciate how organisms affect each other. SUBJECT MATTER A. TOPIC: Ecological Relationship B. MATERIALS: Board and Chalk, Laptop, Television, Visual Aids, Set of pictures of ecological relationship III. PROCEDURE Teacher’s Activity 3.1 Daily Routine Student’s Activity 3.1.1 Opening Prayer Let us all stand for a prayer The students stand for a prayer Good morning class Good morning, Ma’am 3.1.2 Cleanliness and Orderliness Kindly align your chairs, pick up the pieces of papers and put it on a trash can. The students align their chairs and pick up those trash. After aligning and picking up that trash you may take your seat. 3.1.3 Checking of Attendance Ms. Secretary is there any absentees for today? The absentees for today are… 3.1.4 Recall/ Review I have here a box, this box can be called “Flash Box”. Inside the box, there are metacards of different colors. Written on the metacards are questions about our lesson yesterday. You will pass the box to your seatmate as I play the music. When the music stops the one who is holding the box will read and answer the question. There are three questions to be answered. Is that clear? Ok let’s start. Yes ma’am 3.2 Lesson Proper 3.2.1 Motivation I have here 3 pictures of organisms a flower, a butterfly and a bird. Written at the back of the pictures are different situations that can be observed in our environment. One representative from each group will get one picture and choose members of the group will act the situation. Is that clear? Let’s start it now. The situations are: - A mosquito biting a sleeping person. - Chicken, duck and bird catching a worm for food. - Snake catching chicken for food. These are some of the situations that are usually observed in our environment so let us find out more of the different ecological Yes ma’am relationships existing in the ecosystem. 3.2.2 Activity Do you know Dora? Who is Dora? For today we will join Dora in her Yes ma’am, Dora explores in different places. adventure because she wants to know the different ecological relationships in the ecosystem. This activity entitled DORA….The Ecological TRAI-lationship Explorer. I have here sets of picture of different organisms that will be met by Dora as she explores the forest, ocean and the dessert. Group Flora 1. Butterfly and a Flower 2. The butterfly sips the nectar of the flower and the flower is being pollinated. 3. The butterfly is benefited as well as the flower. 4. Mutualism- describes an interaction GROUP FLORA that benefits both species. 1. Orchids and a tree 2. The tree is known as the host being the home of the orchid but not benefited nor harmed. The orchid is the commensal which is benefited by the tree. 3. The orchids are benefited and the tree is not harmed or affected. 4. Commensalism- is a relationship GROUP FAUNA in which one organism benefits from another organism that is not affected. Group Fauna 1. Tapeworm and human intestine 2. The tapeworm gets its food from the intestine of human. The human is affected because of the harmed cause by the tapeworm. 3. The tapeworm is benefited and the human will be affected 4. Parasitism- It is relationship between two species of plants or GROUP ANIMALIA animals in which one benefits at the expense of the other, sometimes without killing the host organism. 1. Cat and Mouse 2. The cat will catch the mouse and eat 3. The cat is benefited and the mouse is harmed 4. Predation- It includes any interaction between two species in which one species benefits by Each group will be given two sets of pictures. Study and analyze the pictures and obtaining resources from and to the detriment of the other. answer the questions that follows: What are the organisms in the picture? How does each organism interact in the picture? Which organism is harmed, affected, benefited or not harmed? What ecological relationship exists in the picture? Describe the relationship. Group Animalia 1. Colony of Ants 2. They are helping each other to go in their place 3. They are all benefited 4. Cooperation- beneficial interaction of the same kind organism or doing the same task for the benefits of all organisms. 3.2.3 Analysis 1. What are the organisms in the picture? 2. How does each organism interact in the picture? 3. Which organism is harmed, affected, benefited or not harmed? 4. What ecological relationship exists in 1. Deer Fighting 2. The deer are fighting to each other for place or territory. 3. This is a negative relationship because both organisms are harming each other. 4. Competition- Competition is when the picture? Describe the organisms compete for the same relationship. resources 3.2.4 Abstraction 1. What is ecological relationship? It is the interaction between 2. What are the types of ecological among organisms within their relationship? environment. Mutualism, Commensalism, 3. How does the organism affect each other? Parasitism, Predation, Competition and Cooperation. Organisms interact with each other and their environment to meet their basic 3.2.5 Application needs and survive. I have here different pictures of the examples of ecological relationship. You need to identify what kind of ecological relationship it is. You will write your answers on the illustration board that I had given to you. I will show you the pictures of different ecological relationship in the ecosystem. - Parasitism - Mutualism - Competition - Commensalism - IV. Cooperation Evaluation True or False Directions: Raise this emoticon if the statement is true and this emoticon if the statement is false. 1. Ecological relationship describes the interaction between and among organisms with their environment. 1. 2. In predation both organisms are benefited. 2. 3. Endo parasites are parasites inhabiting spaces inside the host’s body. 4. In mutualism, one of the organisms is benefited and the other one is harmed. 5. In the interaction of the snake and mouse the predator is the mouse. V. Assignment Describe what energy transfer is and study how it takes place in the ecosystem. 3. 4. 5.
