In this assignment unit 8 recruitment and selection process, I will research 3 large successful
companies with over 250 employees each. The aim of my investigation will be to find out
about their company history, type of business, number of employees, types of jobs,
turnover of employees and there multiple recruitment processes. The information I will
gather will be in result of my research on their method of recruiting and selection.
I will gather information about the processes the businesses use and about their compliance
with the law along with ethical issues that they could face. Also including analysations on
different recruitment methods and the effectiveness of my personal skills plan.
This assignment will also contain evaluations on recruitment and selection processes with
justifications of how they help the business succeed. Along with this I will also include the
evaluations of how well the document were prepared for the interviews and on the
recruitment and selection processes complications, improvements and how it will support
my further career.
The three businesses that I am going to research are:
NatWest
Tesco
Thorpe park
NatWest
Background
The bank's Forerunner Smith's Bank of Nottingham was established in 1658. National Provincial
Bank, its earliest direct corporate predecessor, was established in 1833 as the National Provincial
Bank of England. In 1918, it merged with Union of London and Smith's Bank to form National
Provincial and Union Bank, which was shortened to National Provincial and Union Bank in 1924. In
1962, National Provincial purchased District Bank (founded in 1829 as the Manchester and Liverpool
District Banking Company) and permitted it to operate under its own name. In 1834, the London and
Westminster Bank was founded. In 1909, it merged with London and County Bank to form London
County and Westminster Bank, and in 1918, it merged with Parr's Bank to form London County
Westminster and Parrs Bank, which it shortened in 1923.
The new bank was announced in 1968, and it began trading on January 1, 1970, after the statutory
integration process was completed in 1969 and with this NatWest was formed.
A organisation such as NatWest that is in the highly competitive commercial banking industry will
have to follow a strict recruitment process in other to find the appropriate staff for the company.

Ferda oz
Recruitment process
First of all, NatWest would have to classify the company's vacancies. Vacancies may arise because
either an employee needs to be replaced because he/she was raised, promoted, transferred to
another role, or recruited to another department. Furthermore, vacancies may be the result of a
new department or the introduction of a new product into the company. Secondly, a work
description must be made by NatWest, which will illustrate the roles and obligations they need. For
instance, a bank cashier working for NatWest needs to connect with clients by assisting them, the
role is often fairly sales-oriented, so you'll need to think on your feet and spot possible sales leads to
assist the branch.
Basic bank transactions such as cashing cheques, checking accounts, processing payments, making
money transfers, updating account information would also be needed for you to conduct. But if
NatWest wants the best people for the job, then the job description needs to be comprehensive and
what is expected from workers needs to be made clear. First, NatWest has to write a specification
for an entity. The specification of the employee is a description of the skills, ability, experience,
expertise and other characteristics that an applicant must possess in order to perform the job duties
The goal of the individual is to make it easier for NatWest to find the most eligible individuals. For
instance, if a person is applying for a position as bank manager in NatWest, they need to have good
communication skills, be well organized, and have basic computer skills such as word processing,
databases, and emails. They have to be experienced in managing a team of staff, project
management, bank manager. A degree or postgraduate degree in business, banking or economics or
other related qualifications are the qualifications needed to become a NatWest manager.
After that, to retain eligible staff, NatWest must advertise any vacancies. NatWest will use internal
approaches to advertise a vacancy; internal recruiting ensures that the vacancy is ill for workers who
are already in the company. Work posing inside the company may be an example of an internal
method; job posing is when an employer tells current workers about a potential job vacancy, ads will
appear on the bulletin board of the company. This is also done when additional support is needed by
a department in the organization to reach its deadline. NatWest, however, also has the ability to
advertise vacancies externally, meaning that vacancies would be advertised to individuals outside
the organization. This can be achieved by posting on the NatWest website about current openings.
NatWest can also position posters to attract employee attention.
First, candidates have to apply for the job. NatWest allows applicants to apply for jobs via their
website, candidates to find the position they want, and to open the application form, click the
'Apply' button. They will then be asked to upload their CV and, including your email address, enter
personal information. To log in and monitor your submission, you can use your email address later.
Applicants will have to provide details as to why they are the right individual for the job.
Next, applicants are shortlisted based on their application type, candidates who have work forms
that have job requirements and individual criteria. If an individual applies for a position as a bank
manager, for example, they need communication skills, leadership skills, need to be well organized,
etc. NatWest performs interviews depending on the position that the applicant is applying for. Some
jobs may require a face-to-face interview, while a video interview is required for orders. Major roles
have to face a face-to-face interview, because the job is more critical, so recruiting the right
candidate is crucial for NatWest.
3
Ferda oz
Aspects such as posture are simpler to observe while doing a face-to-face interview. Other positions,
such as branch and roles where you use the telephone, require the applicant to complete a video
interview, as After NatWest has determined precisely what skills you are looking for in an employee
they tailor the method of hiring and selecting to hone in on individuals with those skills. They look at
what the current team's strengths are lacking. For instance, if NatWest has five individuals who are
great in written communications but struggle to introduce themselves to a broad audience, choose a
person who can help with that gap. There are many rounds of interviews for you to improve
yourself.
This process has allowed NatWest to recruit over 59,000 staff members for their cause.
NatWest's staff turnover in 2019 to 2020 was 8% showing that it is a good environment to work in
that has benefits like lots of holidays and benefits such as free personal insurance.
Tesco
Background
Tesco was founded in 1919 by Jack Cohen, the son of Jewish immigrants from Poland, who began
selling war-surplus groceries from a stall in Well Street Market, Hackney, in London's East End. Tesco
was founded in 1924 and is still going strong today. After buying a shipment of tea from Thomas
Edward Stockwell, Jack Cohen coined the term. He created new labels by combining the supplier's
initials (TES) with the first two letters of his surname (CO) to form the word TESCO. Jack Cohen
opened the first Tesco store in September 1931 at 54 Watling Street, Burnt Oak, Edgware,
Middlesex, after experimenting with his first permanent indoor market stall at Tooting in November
1930. Tesco Stores (Holdings) Limited was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1947. In 1956, the
first self-service shop opened in St Albans (which remained open until 2010 before relocating to
larger premises on the same street and serving as a Tesco Metro for a time), and the first
supermarket opened in Maldon. This all allowed for Tesco to now become the biggest market share
holder in the retail industry.
In the UK, Tesco is the largest employer in the private sector. Worldwide, the company has over
360,000 staff. Tesco stores in the United Kingdom range from small local Tesco Express outlets to
massive Tesco Extras and superstores. The UK accounts for about 86 percent of all revenue.
In 12 countries outside the UK, including China, Japan and Turkey, Tesco still operates. Recently, the
firm has opened stores in the United States. This international expansion is part of the strategy of
Tesco to diversify the company and expand it. Tesco draws on the strengths it has built in its non-UK
operations as a market leader in the UK supermarket business. Nevertheless, it also caters to local
needs. In Thailand, for example, in 'wet markets' where the product is not wrapped, consumers are
used to shopping. In its Bangkok store, Tesco uses this tactic rather than selling pre-packaged items
as it does in UK markets. Tesco's headquarters are situated in Welling Garden City.
Tesco needs employees in a wide variety of shop-based and non-shop positions, such as in
supermarkets, checkout workers, stock managers, managers, as well as many specialists, such as
pharmacists and bakers, are needed. Its distribution depots need people who are specialized in stock
and logistics management. The head office provides the framework for the effective operation of
4

Tesco. Here, responsibilities include human resources, legal services, land management,
communications, and information technology and accounting.
Tesco strives to ensure that all positions work together to drive its business goals. It wants to make
sure at the right time that it has the right number of employees in the right positions. To do this, the
recruitment and selection process is designed to draw candidates for both managerial and
organizational positions.
Workforce planning is a method of assessing the possible potential needs of an enterprise for
individuals in terms of numbers, abilities and locations. This helps the organization to prepare how
those expectations will be fulfilled through recruiting and training. For a business like Tesco, it is
important to prepare ahead. Since the company is rising, Tesco needs to hire for both the food and
non-food sections of the business on a regular basis.
Positions are available since jobs are created as the business opens new stores in the United
Kingdom and expands globally. Vacancies occur when workers exit the business or are promoted to
other roles within Tesco as they retire or resign. As the organization modifies its processes and
technologies, new types of jobs can be generated.
To determine the possible need for new workers, Tesco uses a workforce planning table. It takes
both managerial and non-managerial positions into account. For example, Tesco estimates in
2008/09 that there will be a need for about 4,000 new executives to help its business growth.
Recruitment process
Every year, this preparation phase runs from the last week of February. In May, August and
November, there are quarterly assessments, so Tesco will change staffing levels and, where possible,
hire. This gives Tesco ample time and flexibility to fulfil its employee requirements and enables the
business to meet its strategic priorities, such as opening new stores and maintaining customer
service quality.
From within the company, Tesco seeks to fill several vacancies. It recognizes the significance of
empowering its workers to advance their careers with the organization. Tesco performs what 'talent
planning' is called. It helps individuals to work their way into and up the organisation. Individuals can
apply for 'bigger' jobs with an annual assessment scheme. Employees describe positions in which
they would like Tesco to improve their careers. Their manager sets out the requisite technical skills,
competencies and attitudes for these positions, what preparation this will take and how long it will
take for the employee to be prepared to do the job. It allows Tesco to accomplish its business goals
and staff to accomplish their personal and career goals.
Having straightforward job requirements and individual specifications is an important factor in
workforce planning. It sets out a job description. The title of that work. Of whom the holder of the
job is accountable, who is responsible for the holder of the job. Clear explanation of responsibilities
and tasks.
A specification for an individual sets out the talents, characteristics and qualities that a person
requires to do a particular job.
Together, work descriptions and individual criteria provide the basis for job ads. They assist work
seekers and post-holders to grasp what is required of them. They should provide enough data to
attract appropriate individuals as they are sent to those applying for work. Function as a screening
5
Ferda oz
mechanism to ensure that candidates with the right abilities are selected for interview. Set the work
performance goals and norms.
Tesco's staff turnover in 2018 t0 2019 was 8.92% which shows that it is a gob a lot of people like and
stay in due to benefits such as discounts and many holidays but it isn't for everyone.
Thorpe Park (my chosen business)
Background
In the 1970s, Thorpe Park Resort was built on a partially flooded gravel pit, establishing a distinctive
water-based theme for the park that would later lead to the marketing strapline "An Island Like No
Other." In 1979, Lord Louis Mountbatten declared it open to the public. Since then, the park has
grown to become one of the most famous theme parks in the United Kingdom. Thorpe park is part
of the biggest market share holders in the attractions industry with 1250 permanent employees and
many more seasonal and temporary.
A company can have all the newest technologies and the best possible technology and Resources,
however it will fail to achieve the right employees. When companies find the right individuals for the
job, train them well and handle them well, these individuals not only deliver good results, but also
prefer to remain longer with the company.
Seasonal staff at Thorpe Park
This relates to an employment situation in which the working arrangement is formed. Restricted to a
certain amount of time, depending on the employer's needs. Enterprise. Temporary jobs makes it
possible for companies to hire the Employees who they need for particular tasks or periods.
Employees must have a great attitude at Thorpe Park. They are striving as a team to Build
unforgettable guest interactions, and they want you to be part of the Also, fun.
They want young people, including entrepreneurial students, so they can work harder. Inside the
company vigorously, and when things happen, they will be more sensible, since they can understand
more why this happened and how to cope with clients. They still want young people, as the most
important thing is to participate in sports, and when they do this, old people will not be as
enthusiastic as young people. They want them to work well in groups as it will demonstrate that
they have understood each role given to them and that Thorpe Park will operate smoothly,
sufficiently, and effectively, most importantly.
Temporary staff jobs

Here are some examples of temporary jobs at Thorpe Park:
Why Thorpe Park needs temporary staff
Thorpe Park is one of the most successful and most dramatic theme parks in the UK and is the
fastest growing attraction for visitors as well. I've been researching Thorpe Park and I have found
that applying online is the quickest way to get an interview with them. Then, they contact you within
a week if they are interested in you, but the normal process can take up to 2-4 weeks to get an
interview with you. In total, there are about 20 people, divided around tables in groups of 5/6. They
then introduce the company's values, followed by the completion of some group activities, and a
numeracy test after that.
There are also approximately 10 team leaders/managers/supervisors supervising the Activities in a
group. They make you one-to-one after completing the tests, Interview, and those who at this earlier
stage were successful were told that Within seven days, they would let them know whether they
had gotten the job or not.
Thorpe parks staff turnover rate is 15% as of 2017 to 2018 which is in the average range. This shows
many people enjoy working for them however they are not perfect and could use some
improvements to how they deal with there staffs needs to make there position more desirable.
Why I Chose to research Thorpe park
Thorpe park is in a very underappreciated industry being attractions, this was attractive to me
because it is a industry without to much competitors which stands to prove its great success in a not
very exposed and modern industry.
Where to advertise to recruit the right people
Jobs can either be advertised internally or externally.
Internal advertisement
Internal advertising is the process in which advertising is only carried out within the company. The
individual will already know what kind of organization he/she may be working for and the skills
7
Ferda oz
required for the job. This also gives the opportunity for promotion to current employees, which
therefore means that this will motivate them.
Advantages
Cheap to advertise, all candidates known to the organisation.
Disadvantages
Limited choices of candidates, Employees may be stuck in their ways.
External advertisement
This is the management structure from outside the organisation. There are a few there, Ways in
which it can be done include the hiring or use of job centres and agencies by the organization itself.
Advantages
More candidates with unique ideas and ideals.
Disadvantages
More expensive to advertise and takes longer.
Thorpe park uses internal advertisement because this is the easiest option for Thorpe to advertise to
target the right demographics. The Park uses use online to advertise these temporary jobs, as most
people use phones, and since their goal is young people, they really use phones, and the advantage
is that every time they look for something on the internet, these ads will appear. As most young
people regularly watch TV, they could also advertise this by making advertisements on TV, which will
save them time and money as they will receive a lot of young people's applications.
Permanent jobs at Thorpe Park
This refers to an employee who has been hired without a predetermined time limit for a position.
Organizations save time in training and gain stability with permanent employees, as they get more
effective at their jobs through Familiarity with the systems.
8
Ferda oz
An engineer would be an example of a permanent position at Thorpe Park. It doesn't matter
whether it's electrical or mechanical, as I've found that they are electrical or mechanical. Searching
right now for engineers.
All jobs have separate uniforms which are provided by Thorpe park free of charge on the day.
Ways to advertise permanent jobs successfully
The main website, which is an internet website, is one way to advertise permanent positions.
Recruiting online. People are going to want to see that it comes straight from the Undertaking. I've
learned, as an example of this, how they are advertising not only For temporary, but permanent,
employment.
Direct hire may be another form of advertisement. One in a direct hire location is one in Which the
organization uses to locate the talent from the staffing company, and then It directly hires them.
Thorpe Park was also able to advertise this role through agencies. Company workers have agreed to
their terms and are operated by a management consultancy or jobs agency. It would be the duty of
the agency to make sure that the interests of their employees are secured.
Recruitment agency and job centres usually supply low income jobs such as cleaners but also have a
wide range including high income jobs such as airline pilots.
Advantages of recruitment agencies
A recruiting firm deals with employers as well as job seekers. They find out what positions are open
for jobs, and who is best to fill them. They have help for both the candidates and the consumers. You
will receive input as a nominee about your application and how to better yourself. The recruiting
firm wants to make you successful. For whatever questions you might have, they'll always support.
Your recruiter will advise and direct you, whether it's about your CV or interview questions.
Recruitment services help to ease the recruitment issues if you are an employer. The organization
will work to your needs, whether you need to mass recruit or have an urgent role to fill. The
recruiters would just want to send you the best CVs. You're unlikely to use them again if they give
you insignificant candidates also give you faster hiring times and allow for higher quality hand picked
candidates.
Disadvantages
Working with a recruiting firm costs money. Depending on the pay and type of recruiting technique
required, the cost varies. Recruitment companies charge a percentage of the annual pay for a
permanent job. These costs can be beyond the budget for recruitment. Yet, if you have a hard job to
play, the cost could be appropriate.
Job centres have a wide variety of jobs ranging from cleaners to managerial roles.
Advantages
Free and fast using methods such as group interviews that can lead to good jobs.
Disadvantages
Unreliable with bad client communication due to the high demand. some people also never hear
back from jobs missing opportunities.
9
Ferda oz
Thorpe park does not use job centerers and recruitment agencies they strictly use there own
websites application process only. This allows them to have greater control of who they allow to
work for them and handpick the best candidates which they believe has the most potential. This is a
good thing because it maximises the quality of their staff due to them being subjected to a rigours
recruitment process.
Online recruiting methods have been the most commonly used method of hiring. Hires. Recruiters.
Several businesses are currently using internet recruitment methods, and a growing As a way of
recruiting new workers, numbers prefer social media. Businesses, stuff like that, Like Thorpe Park,

The benefits of online recruiting are that, first of all, they are not only cost-effective but they are You
can post your work openings for free on most websites, but it also minimizes Labor costs. You can be
able to save if you spend a little money in candidate screening software. Yet more capital during the
course of recruiting. Technology helps easily tackle vacancies Processes and coordinates.
The downside of online recruiting is that if your platform is racist, it could be seen to be

How Thorpe Park adheres recruitment processes that are ethical and
comply to the current employment law
There are many problems that you need to face. Regard as a company in relation to the recruitment
processes. Those are ethical issues that It involves making decisions that align with that sense of
right and wrong, as well as with that sense of right and wrong.
It is essential that employers, regardless of their job role in any company, are aware of equal
opportunities. Many employers have a very clear policy of equal opportunities to help them comply
with the legislation and also to ensure that they make changes to help prospective employees from
various groups succeed in their applications.
Ethical considerations differ slightly from legal considerations in that they include elements that are
not required by law but that ensure the process is fair when implemented, even if legal action could
not be taken. When they are advertising jobs, Thorpe Park should be honest, and maintain
confidentiality throughout the process. In addition, Thorpe Park needs to ensure that all candidates
are asked the same questions in interviews, and I can confirm that they ask all candidates the same
questions or use the same criteria for all of them.
Legislation on equal opportunities guarantees that all prospective staff are supported to do their
best and that they are not disadvantaged. The Act simplifies, reinforces and harmonizes the current
legislation to give Britain a new law on discrimination that protects people from unfair treatment
and promotes a fairer and more equal society when applying for employment.

Such reasons are called 'protected features' and a prospective employee can take action against an
employer if discrimination takes place.

the right to live and work in the United Kingdom for the right to work. In order to avoid employing a
person who does not have the right to work in the UK, employers must ensure that they are aware
of the law and ask for the right documents and information, such as a letter from HMRC or a
British/EU passport. A copy of the documentation must also be kept by employers and they are still
within the required dates. They risk a fine of up to 20,000 per person if they do not check these

to interpret the law and improving rights in certain cases. It points out the various ways in which
treating others is unlawful. If you believe you have been wrongly discriminated against.
If the equality act is not followed there is a fine of £2500 and potentially end up in jail if you have
broken laws such as being racist.
Thorpe Park throughout their history have always been a ethical company and we can see this
through there reviews and suppliers which only have positive things to say about them and they get
all their supplies from ethical sources.
Thorpe Park has always adhered to the minimum wage legislation currently being £8.72 and have
many very high paying jobs such as engineers that get over £19 a hour with no history and
complaints that they haven’t paid staff. Thorpe parks lowest paying job (cleaner) gets paid £9 a hour,
this shows that Thorpe park is following the minimum wage legislation.
The equal opportunities legislation has been met by Thorpe park clearly as there has been a report
by merlin entertainment that over 40% of their employees are of other heritages and cultures .
They also follow the equality statement perfectly which can be proved because they haven’t been

What is the social responsibility charter (CSR)?
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) refers to a business's attempts to strengthen society and
contribute to sustainable growth, thereby enhancing the company itself. CSR identifies projects run
by an organization to determine and take responsibility for their impact on a range of topics ranging
from human rights to the environment. The goal of CSR is to enable companies to conduct their
businesses in an ethical manner and, by ensuring sustainable development, to work towards having
a more positive effect on society.
Corporate social responsibility generally refers to the lengths taken by organizations that go beyond
what, as specified by regulators and environmental groups, is considered obligatory by law and
ethical principles. In several ways, CSR programs will take shape, with common examples including
contributing money to charity and introducing workplace environmental schemes. Environmental,
legal, and philanthropic are the three major forms of CSR.
Analyzation on the different recruitment methods used in Thorpe
park
For the success of a company, hiring workers is very critical. Humans are also the most expensive
assets in an organization and the wrong employees if consumers are Unhappy or badly serviced. It is
also important to hire staff in a professional way to Businesses and helps their efficiency. This is
because technical recruiting suggests that the credibility of the organization continues to be good so
that more customers are drawn to work. Uh. There. Each stage of hiring has a goal and helps Thorpe
Park to get the best The workers for the work.
To narrow down the applicant pool, you go through all the applications, resumes, and cover letters.
Discard any that substantially strays beyond the necessary qualifications specified in phase 1. You
can find that fewer skilled applicants apply when unemployment is poor, so change your standards
accordingly to certain skills or experiences that are not completely required.
You should be more precise about such credentials as many employees are searching for jobs. As
developed by your HR teams, compile a list of a suitable number of potential employees. Because in
the next phase, many applicants will be discarded, and some will lose interest over time, find more
potential hires than you think you will need.
Using phone interviews to further narrow down the pool in order to keep the interview time to a
minimum and free up management and HR resources. For screening out-of-town candidates, this
can be helpful, because it can tell you a little about how they interact. While telephone interviews
should not be used as the only way to judge personality or professionalism, they will give you insight
into the suitability of the prospective candidate.
Now that you have fewer applicants in the pool, in order to properly determine their credentials,
you should start setting up in-person interviews. Your interactions with the applicant will
14
Ferda oz
concentrate on their ability to connect and their familiarity with company culture, whether you want
a panel or group interview, or stick to one-on-one sessions.
The recruiting manager will narrow the pool down to the right candidate for the position until
everyone has been interviewed and you've received input from the interviewers. In the event that
the first choice refuses the job offer, a second candidate may often be known as a runner-up. Since
the next step includes checking, if the first option does not succeed, having a second applicant in
mind is beneficial.
The employer can make an offer of employment conditional on passing tests or a background check
before an applicant is brought on board as a suitable new employee. This means that, if anything
goes well, the work is theirs. As well as criminal background history checks, drug tests are normal.
I believe that this process will work due to it being a widely adapted method for recruiting the
highest quality of employees that have the skills for the job and are motivated to work to the best of
their ability.
What Thorpe Park does in the recruitment process that contributes
to their success
The current recruitment process used by Thorpe park contributes to the success of the company
because of processes they do such as writing a personal spec. This contributes to their success by
showing to the candidates what they are looking for in a employee and the type of job that is being
advertised. This is important to their success because it only lets people who are passionate for the
job apply and this will make sure that they are doing there job to the best of their ability wowing
customers.
There advertisements of the job also contribute to their success because of the fact that it is easy to
access on the internet allowing them to have a large number of candidates because of the way they
advertise is accessible. This is important for their success because they need to get the word out for
the job and find candidates of high standards.
They also create a online application form which contributes to their success because of the fact that
it is very easy to fill out for the candidates and is easy to review for the employer. This is important
because it saves time allowing for Thorpe Park to review more applicants quicker and more
effectively to find the best matches for the jobs.
Thorpe park also shortlists candidates this means that only people who have met the entry
requirements for the job can continue to the further phases of recruitment. This helps their success
by only allowing people with qualifications to pass through this stage.
Another reason why Thorpe Parks recruitment process has contributed to its success is the group
interview process. The interview process contributes to their success by letting you judge the
character of the candidate and being able to see there professionalism along with there posture.
This is important for Thorpe Parks success because of the fact that they only let the best candidates
portray themselves to the customers showing them the highest quality of customer service making
15
Ferda oz
the business seem more desirable to customers therefore having more customers come in to
experience it.
After this another reason for Thorpe Parks success would be that at this stage they will select the
best candidates from the group interview and have one to one interviews. This process contributes
to there success because here is where the employee accesses the candidates to find the best exact
fit for the job making sure they show the attributes of the company and be happy for the candidate
to portray their company.
Finally a job offer will be made within 1 week which contributes to the success of the company due
to the fact that it is a fairly fast offer being more attractive to potential employees . This is important
because they are going to want the candidate they have picked because they believe he is the best
for the job and will be the most successful.
Evidence that Thorpe park is successful is they only recruits people with a passion to work for them
to ensure the highest quality of service is in its 85% staff retention figure in 2019 which shows that
many people choose to stay in their jobs because they are happy. They also have a revenue £1.74
billion showing there success as a business and that there processes are working.
One improvement I would make is allowing candidates to apply over paper resumes and letters
because not everyone has access to a computer or the internet. This will be good because it allows
them to appeal to more candidates that could be very good potential employees.
Detailed explanations of certain parts of the recruitment process that contributes to Thorpe Parks
success are shown bellow.
You will need to apply online if you want to apply for a position at Thorpe Park, where you will be
able to apply online. Summit and Request with your CV attached. It can take up to 14 days to obtain
an answer From Thorpe Park, but usually within 3-5 days of the request, they reply. Once there is
the date of the submission deadline has been reached, all applications are screened and assessed to
pick the applicants to be interviewed would like to make progress.
Then, you get an email stating that you would like to come to Thorpe Park for an interview on a
particular day. You start by being placed into groups and are asked to do different group activities,
such as: coming up with a new Thorpe Park attraction. You do numeracy, perception of risk, eyesight
and colour blindness tests as well. Finally, you do a 1 on 1 interview and within 10 to 14 days you will
typically know the outcome of your application. It is very important to dress in a way that shows
them that you are serious about giving their guests a great impression and having the necessary
paperwork when you get the interview, and that includes: Documents showing your eligibility to
work in the UK.
Interview Protocols & Assessment Centres
There are 2 kinds of recruitment processes in Thorpe Park, which are the interview protocols and the
Centres for appraisal. Interview protocols for Thorpe Park are almost the same as other enterprises,
Applicants do have to be early in the interview and need to dress smartly, but the form of interview
The interview is different because they want to ensure that the best individual is hired by the
organization. Different tasks are assigned to them to work with other individuals or just by
themselves. In front of every 1 by 1, it is also questioned why they applied for this job. This method
of choosing Provides the correct image of the business to applicants and ensures that they exit the

process With the organisation's best impression. When candidates are in the evaluation centres,
Supported meals during the day and lodging overnight and even breakfast if it goes 2 Uh, days.
Candidates are measured in formal phases, such as during the interview and even during the
interview. Less formal periods, such as during breaks at dinner. They are monitored and there are
decisions Made in all operations and they should always be competent.
Advantages of Interview Protocols at Thorpe Park
One of the benefits of using interview protocols is that it allows questions to be more
comprehensive. They are asked, and they typically achieve a high rate of response. This is good
because it benefits the worker, Seeing how the individual is, which means that they obtain
comprehensive personal details Feelings, thoughts and perceptions
Disadvantages of Interview Protocols at Thorpe Park
Any of the drawbacks of interview protocols may be that they may take a lot of time: setup,
interview, recording, review, reviews, reporting, etc. Also, they can be expensive and a business
should not pay a lot of cash on an interview. Finally, in different ways, multiple interviewers will
understand and transcribe interviews.
Advantages of Assessment Centres at Thorpe Park
It helps employers to see applicants for longer which can build a positive outlook. Candidates are
also involved in Spend more time with the employer to find out whether he or she wants to work for
that company. Various Tests and operations are carried out and help the employer obtain a more
holistic view of the Applicants. As large numbers of applicants can be screened, it is also good for the
business. As they can all be invited together easily.
Disadvantages of Assessment Centres at Thorpe Park
Any of the drawbacks of evaluation Centres may be that often applicants will not be able to If they
think the procedure is too hard or if they have to come from far away, show up. Set aside It typically
takes a lot of time to do this, and if they use an organization, it can be expensive.
Group or team activity interview
The group or team interview procedures can differ greatly depending on the type of interview. A
organization that hires. This is because the skills needed by those companies would be Significantly
vary also.
Advantages of Thorpe Park social events
Many applicants can be viewed easily and it can be a good way to screen applicants In the beginning.
It is possible to create dialogue and debate, which enables the employer to make decisions About
the Right Applicants
Disadvantages of group activities at Thorpe Park
Candidates can be shy and, if not correctly handled, disputes may arise between candidates.
Thorpe Park processes that could be improved:
17
Ferda oz
-Identify Vacancy - Recruitments provide departments with opportunities to align employee skill sets
with strategies and priorities, as well as with departmental and individual development. Proper
preparation and assessment of the need would lead to the right individual being recruited for the
position and team.
-Write Job Description - It is a vital aspect of the recruiting process to write an accurate work
description. It defines the key tasks involved as well as the core competencies needed for the role to
be carried out. So, the job requirements should be better written, and this could result in better job
applicants.
-The Individual Specification is a list of the skills, talents, experience, expertise and other
characteristics that an applicant must have in order to get the job. This could be strengthened by
Thorpe Park by maybe providing training to prospective applicants. For instance, if they see a
prospective applicant, but it doesn't have all the characteristics that Thorpe Park is looking for, what
they might take him into training, and therefore show him what they expect from him. This will favor
the organization in the long run, as most of the candidates would receive excellent reviews and
positive feedback.
-This is where the company advertises the job online, in order to get candidates and ideally the
employer(s) they are looking for.
-Create an online application process. This is where the company generates a form where employees
can apply for the job and submit their CV attached.
-Receive applications and CV's-Where the business requires candidates to apply their CV's, and then
decide whether they are eligible for the job and receive an interview invitation or not.
-Shortlist candidates-This is where, after seeing their CV's, the employer chooses the candidates that
attract them most for further interviews or tasks.
-Interview and evaluation center This is where the business incorporates tasks and activities that
evaluate the applicant's suitability for the job. This gives them the ability to present a broader
variety of skills than you would have been able to display during a typical face-to-face interview.
-Select Best Candidate-This is where the organization chooses the best applicants for the role.
-This is an invitation for a job applicant to become an employee of your company, which includes the
wage, benefits, job title, name of the position supervisor and other terms and conditions of
employment.
Without the right workers with the right qualifications, a company can not produce enough goods to
fulfil consumer needs or provide customers with the right services. This is one of the most important
components of their company for a business like Thorpe Park, since it is all focused on pleasing
customers across the events and rides they operate. As most of the participants in the park are
families with children, they need to be prepared for all sorts of circumstances. These processes
therefore enable Thorpe Park to thrive as they want to ensure that their clients get the best
experience and services from them.
Also, if Thorpe Park wishes to develop its workers, when they interview the applicants, what they
should do is incorporate psychometric tests
Psychometric Tests
18
Ferda oz
In a test centre, psychometric assessments can be performed. It is possible to use these tests to test
for various types of skills. Some of them make assumptions regarding ability levels, such as literacy
or numeracy, for example.
Psychometric Tests advantages
Psychometric literacy and numeracy assessments may help find out whether a person is acceptable
for a profession, such as whether they have to use numeracy a lot in their role, such as Thorpe Park
engineering jobs. The tests can also help to determine whether an applicant is going to fit into a team
or a job position well.
Psychometric Tests disadvantages
Any of the psychometric test drawbacks may be that candidates might get nervous and not perform
very well. If online assessments are used before arriving for an interview, successful applicants can be
refused. In an online exam, if it is done at home, it could be possible to cheat.
These processes allow for Thorpe park to have reliable workers that stay in there role decreasing the
staff retention figures being 30 people leaving there job in 2019 which is good looking at there huge
number of employees.

How my interview went (peer assessment)
During my peer interview my peers noted positives in my interview such as a very confident start,
formal clothing, confident, posture, eye contact, ability to answer questions. However, my weak
points were areas such as the uniqueness of my answers. Overall, my interview was a good all-round
interview with not many flaws. My peers also made comments on my interview such as great and
excellent and in my opinion I feel that I did well however I will need to improve on my points like
having unique answers.
Body language and hand gestures are very important during a interview because they show your
interested in the job and that the interviewer has you full attention.
25
Ferda oz
Dress is important because it shows your professionalism and makes you more desirable for the job
because you are showing that you can take care of yourself.
To get top marks for this attribute I will have to dress well in a suit to impress the interviewer and
always face and gesture towards my interviewer without any hesitation and not overdoing it.

Competency analysis
During the interview all the correct questions where asked to the correct people proven by the fact
that the interviewers always asked relevant questions and the interviewees also asked a relevant
question at the end for the most part. This was important to show everyone at their best.
The job description was also filled in with the correct amount of detail about the job such as the title
and the location allowing for the applicants to know what to talk about and make sure that the job is
for them.
30
Ferda oz
The personal specification also had the correct amount of detail including requirements and desirable
traits and the correct criteria showing the professional standards needed for the role.
Both the job description and the personal specification contained the correct level of detail in the
letter of application because they contained every thing required such as information on the job and
responsibilities that you will have along with the title and where the job is located , the personal
specification also showed requirements and standards with criteria . The letter of application was a
good fit for the job being shown.
The recruitment process also adhered to the equal opportunities legislation perfectly by not
discriminating anybody and not asking personal questions keeping everything work related and
appropriate.

Competency analysis
Many of the right questions were posed to the correct people during the interview, as shown by the
fact that the interviewers often asked specific questions, and the interviewees, for the most part, even
asked a relevant question at the end. It was important to portray everyone at their best.
The job description was also filled in with the appropriate amount of information about the job, such
as the title and venue, so that candidates would know what to discuss and ensure that the position
was right for them.
The personal specification also had the right amount of detail, such as qualifications and desirable
characteristics, as well as the right criteria for demonstrating the professional standards required for
the position.
Both the work description and the personal specification included the appropriate level of detail in
the letter of application since they included everything needed, such as details about the job and
duties that you would have, as well as the title and location of the job. The personal specification also
included qualifications and expectations of guidelines. The cover letter was a good match for the job
description.
The recruitment process was also entirely compliant with equal opportunity laws, as it did not
discriminate against anybody and did not ask personal questions, keeping everything work-related
and relevant.

The documents prepared and interview activity participation supported the process of a job offer by
providing us a realistic tense atmosphere. The documents prepared such as the job description were
perfect with all necessary information needed allowing us to formulate a correct plan for the interview

like it would be for an actual interview judging our ability to function under pressure and to prove
ourselves to the interviewer by making ourselves more desirable for the job position which is the

Weaknesses
In the recruitment process, I think my biggest
strength was the planning, which divide It
consists of two key things: being prepared for
the work, studying it and writing an outstanding
post CV and letter of cover. I feel like I did a good
analysis, I got all the data I needed to do it I knew
what kind of questions I would have been asked
in the interview and I was mindful of them. i
revised it for a few days, and I produced my CV
and cover letter for the job with that completed.
When I finished it, I was very pleased with
myself.
I was really nervous during the interview, but I
was able to conquer those nerves by Having
confidence in myself. I was able to correctly
articulate what I needed to say on most of my
own Responses. As I was able to answer each of
the questions, avoiding slang words in
particular, I believe I gave the interviewer a
background linked to the business and the
question. The impression is very strong, being
professional and paying attention to everything.
I felt like my main strength after the interview,
apart from my confidence, was my outfit. I felt
I felt like my biggest weakness was before the
interview was my overconfidence. I was saying
that It was all going to be nice and simple, and I
didn't have to face any problems, but It wasn't
like that. Underestimating the interview was one
of my weaknesses. I thought it was going to be
difficult as it was going to be tough, A few days
before the interview, I practised but I didn't do
my best. I know that I should have He prepared
better for the interview and practiced more at
home, but as I did not feel pressure at home, I
was more comfortable about the interview then.
I realized when I came out of the interview that
I was not properly expanding on certain
responses And I skipped some stuff, which
means I didn't give enough details, and I didn't
give enough information. To the interviewer,
and then the interviewer may have felt I wasn't
the right person Applicant for the role. I know
that I should have given a better answer to my
questions. Inquired. Often, I wanted to say when
I was anxious or struggled to get the answer and
I needed a I didn't sustain eye contact for a few

possible.
One of the opportunities I may have before the
interview is to learn more about the business.
And the position I have applied for. Prepare
myself more, therefore, and for more
interviews, Research the place and industry that
I'm going to apply to work more thoroughly. I
was anxious during the interview, struggling to
get the response I wanted to say, and So, I
needed a few seconds to think a little bit more. I
felt like I wasn't very sure and I wasn't really
sure, In some of the answers, positive about
myself. As the interview went on, however, I had
The chance to transcend the burden and lack of
trust and to answer questions Better, more
patience, and being able to better articulate
myself.
After the interview, I think one of the options I
should have is to focus more on my Body
language and trust. I think I had a bit of pressure
at the beginning of the interview, I wasn't too
focused on myself or myself. Therefore, I was
playing with this strain, and I struggled. In order
to answer a few questions, I looked away to
reflect, and for potential interviews, I'm going to
try not to If I fail to get an answer I look away.
One of the threats I had before the interview
was that the interview was lateness. As I live far
away from home I had to take public transport
from the location where the meeting was. I have
made sure to quit Home early and with enough
time and no complications to get there. Luckily,
I was on, uh, Time for the interview, and nothing
happened, but if the train had been delayed that
day, I would have been able to My interview and
possibly the chance to get the job were missed,
as they don't care if a train is They want you to
be punctual and prompt. They have been
delayed.
Another risk that I found myself to have is that I
was not the only one looking for this job, And so,
during the interview, I kept putting pressure on
myself. I continued to believe that I was Instead
of being kind of comfortable and answering
questions without having to get the work, In
other subjects, including being anxious because
of the other candidates, I have my mind. The
only threat I had in my mind after the interview
was if I was going to get the job. After the I kept
wondering in the interview whether they were
going to give me the job, and therefore the
position, Competition was the only challenge I
found, as there were a large number of people
waiting for their Hey. Interview.

Weaknesses
My strengths while I was interviewing was that I
always kept good eye contact with the person I
was interviewing showing that they have my full
attention. I always acted professionally and with
confidence with a good handshake. This was due
to me practicing the process at home.
A major weakness I had in the interview was that
I was speaking very fast and trying to get it done
with which caused my interviewee to be
confused and ask me to repeat myself . This was
due to me being very inpatient and I could have
avoided this by practicing my questions and
pacing more at home.
One opportunity I may have is to learn more
about the organization before the interview.
And the position for which I have applied.
Therefore, train myself more and study the
position and industry that I'm going to apply to
work more thoroughly for more interviews.
During the interview, I was stressed, struggling
to get the answer I wanted to say, and I needed
a couple of seconds to think a little bit more. I
felt like I wasn't really sure and I wasn't even
sure that I was confident about myself in any of
the responses. However, as the interview went
on, I had the ability to overcome the pressure
and lack of confidence and answer questions
Better, more patience, and better express
myself.
One threat I had prior to the interview was the
lateness of the interview. I had to take public
transport from the place where the meeting
was, because I live far away from home. I made
sure I left home early and had enough time and
no hassle to get there. Fortunately, I was on, uh,
interview time, and nothing happened, but if the

Communication skills- 4- personally I feel like my communication skills were good due to
the fact that I spoke confidently and used good body language showing that I was interested and
motivated for the job making myself stand out from the rest of the candidates by always keeping
37
Ferda oz
focussed as a interviewer and interviewee at all times and always staying on topic. I also chose to give
myself this point as my peers reviews on this matter further justifies my rating.
Listening skills- 4-
I was able to show strong listening skills during the interview. I
demonstrated this by making eye contact with the interviewer to prove that I was paying attention to
what she was doing. I also made sure I wasn't talking on the phone, writing, or reading from the
newspaper. papers that were in front of me so that I could demonstrate that I was uninterested in
what she was saying stating I had an open mind throughout the interview. This means I didn't pass
judgement on the situation. when she asked me a question that I thought she had already asked me.
if I am to If I judge her, I will jeopardise my ability to listen effectively. In addition, I did not disturb the
conversation. I showed the interviewer that I was paying attention to what he was doing.
I can also develop my listening skills by putting myself in the shoes of the interviewer. This means I'll
have to demonstrate that I understand what the interviewer is asking and that I'll give her the
response she wants. Also, I want to be certain that I catch all of the important points that the speaker
makes. So, as the interviewer says, I'll be able to respond right away. to better myself Active listening
is something I need to work on. I can do this by sitting down with a book. Offer him input based on
what they said to a family member or acquaintance. In the future, I'll be I am able to concentrate on
the interviewer's words and am not concerned about how I will react.
If I don't listen well, the interviewer will assume that I don't find what she's saying interesting and that
I'm not paying attention. This may also mean that I am not interested in the role. My long-term goal
is to continue honing my listening skills and refrain from interrupting anyone.
This will be useful in the future when I have to offer an interview for a university or apprenticeship
position. Also, I'll need to apply for a part-time job during university, so listening skills will be necessary
because the interviewer will notice that I'm interested in the job and that I'm serious about it. I'll have
a lot of interviews at university, which will help me with my assignments and essays, and my listening
skills will come in handy. Additionally, enhancing my listening skills will help me in the future because
I will feel more at ease and relaxed during an interview.
Organisational ability-2- My organisation skills in my opinion were not the best due to the
fact that I couldn’t pace myself when answering questions from the interviewer and speaking quite
fast with short answers, this shows my weak point in my organisation skills. However as the interview
went on I started to catch on and rapidly start to improve and fix my mistake so over all it wasn’t a
huge problem. Also another thing that is accounted with organisation is punctuality. I demonstrated
punctuality skills during the interview by arriving on time. This is significant because I proved to the
interviewer that I am punctual. I demonstrated to the interviewer that this job is important to me and
that I am serious about getting it. If I arrive late, the interviewer will decide not to continue the
interview because I was late. Even if I did all right and the interviewer gave me a chance, I would still
not get the job because they value punctuality.
I may increase my punctuality by leaving 15 minutes earlier in case of traffic or if I'm taking the train,
which might not run on time. I'll be able to prepare my uniform and bag the night before. Also, I need
to make sure I set enough alarms and that I can tell my mother to wake me up if I don't.
38
Ferda oz
Improving skills-5- My ability to rapidly improve on the go as seen in my organisation ability
is very good as I can identify a error and rapidly change it for the better, This allows me to learn from
my mistakes and never make the same ones again. Generally my Improving skills are very good as I
am I extremely fast learner. An example of this is prior to the interviews I practiced my body language
and posture to make sure it was the best it could possibly be. To do this I got a family member to
watch the way I sit and adjust me until I had learnt to stay in that position without fail consistently.

It is very important to maintain eye contact as it tells the interviewer that you are engaged. And it also
