Character Profile
Basic Composition
Use the prewriting techniques listed below to begin a composition on a person who
has influenced your life. Use a separate sheet of paper for the listings.
1. List five (5) people who have influenced your life. These can be family
members, friends, clergy, coaches, teachers, or anyone you know personally.
Avoid people who are famous and don’t know you personally.
2. Choose three (3) of the individuals on your list and identify at least one (1)
important influence he/she had on your life.
3. From this list, choose one person to create your character profile. Think about
the person you’ve chosen. Visualize the person’s face, voice, characteristics, and
idiosyncrasies. Then recall personal moments with this person. Fill in the chart
below with two (2) examples for each category. (Be sure that each example
reveals personality).
4. After completing the chart below, begin writing a character profile that
illustrates this person’s unique personality and reveals his or her important
influence on you.
