Write three pieces of advice you can give someone, using
the first conditional form.
1. If you don’t study well, you will fail the exam.
2. If you don’t come to class on time, the teacher will
be angry.
3. If you eat too much sugar, you will get diabetes.
4. If I am ill, my son will take care of me.
5. If my son doesn’t pass his exam, I will be very angry.
6. If I don’t sleep at night, I will have a headache.
7. If I sleep early, I will get up early.
8. I am young, I will have a good memory,
9. If I have a good memory, I will remember lots of
English words.
10. If I have enough vocabulary, I will speak English
fluently.
11. If you study hard, you will go to university.
12. If you drink too much alcohol, you will mess up

friends’ privacy, they will leave.

If I pass the exam, I will go on a trip.
If+ present simple, + will+ base form.
First conditional = Things that will be true in future, if the
condition is true.
If the first part is true, the second part will also be true in
future.
Second conditional = The first part is not true at the
moment, but if it becomes true, the second part will also
be true. But it is less likely (less possibility)
If my friend calls me, I will go out.
If I want to play basketball, I will first go to the stadium.
If I have student visa, I will go on studying English.
If I have a lot of money, I will travel around the world.
If we read more books, we will know more.
If the border re-opens, I will go back to China.
If I have a holiday, I will drink a lot.
If I am hungry, I will cook some food.
If I have a work visa, I will go to work.
Compulsory/Obligatory/mandatory statements (rules)
You must turn off your phone before you come in. (it’s
obligatory/compulsory to do this.)
You have to pay before the end of the month. (less
stronger than must, but it is compulsory)
You mustn't eat here.
Optional:
You don't have to pay to see this. (If you like, you can pay
but it is not compulsory.)
1. You must go to bed before 10 pm.
2. You mustn’t play computer games from Monday to
Friday.
3. You have to finish your homework before playing
computer games.
