Scoring Rubric: Based on assigned short stories from Module 02 only.
Criteria: Length: 2 pages APA formatted with double spacing and indented paragraphs.

Criteria: Introduction and Thesis: Clear introductory paragraph that specifies the title of the
work, the author, and specifies whether the work is modernist and dystopian. A clearly defined
thesis statement which states what will be included in the paper, including the 2 literary terms
that will be used.

Criteria: Body: Body paragraphs which follow the thesis and specifically address the key
concepts of the theme of the story, and uses at least 2 of the literary terms from Module 02
vocabulary terms list to illustrate close reading. Quotes and lines from the referenced story or
poem should be used to support claims. In-text citations should also be used after direct quotes,
paraphrases, or summaries. One outside article other than the assigned reading is used and
referenced in the paper.

Criteria: Conclusion: Clear conclusion that restates the thesis, but does not repeat it, and
summarizes the key findings of the work of fiction and poetry.
Points: 7
Criteria: Grammar, Punctuation, and Mechanics: The paper should be free of grammar,
punctuation, and documentation errors.
