Speaking activity: Practising IT-related vocabulary
The tutor asks the student what she already knows in the realm of IT.
In case she has little or no knowledge, the tutor shows a deck of flashcards (French/English) with
the most basic terms, and they go through it.
In case she is knowledgeable, they speak about the aims of the new IT system, as well as
discussing the existing one and what she thinks about it (advantages and disadvantages).
III. Grammar Focus

Introduction
The tutor explains the structure of the French Conditional (based on the Future Simple tense)
and takes some specific verbs (Pouvoir, Etre) which are then used in typical questions to ask for
clarification:

The tutor asks a question in the present, the student has to repeat the same question in the
conditional:
Tutor: Est-ce que vous pouvez développer ce point ?
Student: Est-ce que vous pourriez développer ce point ?
Tutor: Est-ce que vous pouvez répéter ?
Student: Est-ce que vous pourriez répéter?
Tutor: Est-ce qu’il est possible d’obtenir plus d’informations ?
Student: Est-ce qu’il serait possible d’obtenir plus d’informations ?
Tutor: Pouvez-vous définir ce terme ?
Student: Pourriez-vous définir ce terme ?
Targeted language in a speaking activity
Role play: The tutor quickly reads some complex sentences including IT-related words and
data. In the meantime, the student has to take notes, summarise the information in a clear way
and ask for clarification in a formal way using the Conditional if she did not understand.
