BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Distance Learning refers to a learning delivery modality, where learning takes place between the teacher and the learners who are geographically remote from each other during instruction. This modality has three types: Modular Distance Learning (MDL), Online Distance Learning (ODL), and TV/Radio-Based Instruction. (Quinones, 2020) Modular learning is the most popular type of Distance Learning. In the Philippines, this learning modality is currently used by all public schools because according to a survey conducted by the Department of Education (DepEd), learning through printed and digital modules emerged as the most preferred distance learning method of parents with children who are enrolled this academic year (Bernardo, J). This is also in consideration of the learners in rural areas where internet is not accessible for online learning. The Bolaoen Elementary School aims to measure the effectiveness of modular distance learning in delivering necessary knowledge and skills to the learners during this new normal set up. III. RESEARCH QUESTIONS This action research will be conducted to measure the effectiveness of the modular learning whether digital or printed in the progress of the learners of Bolaoen Elementary School. Specifically, the study seeks to answer the following questions: 1. What is the level of effectiveness of the modular distance learning in Bolaoen Elementary School? 2. What is the level of academic performance of the learners of Bolaoen Elementary School in the 1st to 3rd quarter of school year 2020-2021? 3. Is there significant differences between the level of performance of the learners after the implementation of Modular Distance Learning? IV. SCOPE AND LIMITATION The study will be conducted among 21 Grade 6 learners of Bolaoen Elementary School, Bolaoen, Sual, Pangasinan this school year 2021- 2022. Academic performance includes the summative assessment results in all learning areas. V. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY This action research will be employing descriptive method. The research will describe the level of academic performance of the students in mean average rating and the level of implementation of the modular distance learning as perceived by the learners and teachers expressed in average weighted mean. Complete enumeration among 21 Grade 6 learners of Bolaoen Elementary school will be utilized in determining the respondents, thus, no sampling technique will be used. A questionnaire will be used to determine the level of academic performance of learners and the level of implementation of modular distance learning in the teaching and learning process. The questionnaire will be administered before and after the implementation of modular distance learning.
