TOAILE SETOFOLO 2022/1569 SEABATA MAPETJA 2022/1274 MOSHATO HLALEFANG 2022/1100 TITLE: OSMOSIS IN PLANT CELLS AIM: TO INVESTIGATE THE EFFECTS OF SALT CONCENTRATION ON THE POTATO CELLS THROUGH OSMOSIS INTRODUCTION: TAKE THE POTATOES AND CUT THEM INTO FOUR EQUAL CYLINDRAL PIECES AND POUR THEM INTO DIFFERENT TEST TUBE WITH DIFFERENT SOLUTION. AFTER FIVE MINUTES TEST FOR FLEXIBILITY OF THE CYLINDRAL POTATOES MATERIAL: APPARATUS TEST TUBES * 4 SCALPEL FORCEPS CHEMICALS SALT WATER PROCEDURE: STEP 1 POTATOES WERE CUT INTO FOUR EQUAL CYLINDRAL PIECES STEP2 TEST TUBE 1 AND 2 WERE FILLED WITH TAP WATER AND TEST TUBE 3 AND 4 WERE FILLED WITH WATER AND SALT SOLUTION STEP 3 TWO CYLINDRAL PIECES WERE DROPPED IN TEST TUBE 1 AND 2 WHILE TWO CYLINDRAL PIECES WERE DROPPED IN TEST TUBE 3 AND 4 STEP 4 OBSERVATION TOOK FIVE MINUTES RESUTS: AFTER FIVE MINUTES THE FIRST TWO CYLINDRAL POTATOES THAT WERE IN THE TEST TUBES WITH TAP WATER WERE NOT FLEXIBLE WHILE THE OTHER TWO CYLINDRAL POTATOES IN THE TEST TUBE WITH SALT SOLUTION WERE FLEXIBLE CONCLUSION: OSMOSIS IS THE SPONTANEOUS PASSAGE OF WATER SOLVENTS THROUGH A SEMIPERMEABLE MEMBRANE AND THE CYLINDRAL POTATOES WAS FLEXIBLES BEACOUSE THE SALT SOLUTION WAS ABSORBED INTO THE POTATOES WHILE THE CYLINDRAL POTATOES IN TAP WATER WAS NOT FLEXIBLE BECAUSE THE WATER WAS NOT ABLE TO BE ABSORBED.
