Depress CNS and prevent seizures.
Therapeutic Use
Preeclampsia and eclampsia
Complications
Toxicity: Absence of deep tendon reflexes, urine output
less than 30 ml per hour. Respirations less than 12/min.
Cardiac dysrythmia. Dec level of consciousness.
Contraindications/Precautions
If mag toxicity suspected: stop infusion. Calcium gluconate
antidote. Prepare to prevent respiratory/cardiac arrest.
Medication Administration
Given via pump.

Assess BP, pulse, resp, deep
tendon reflexes, level of
consciousness, urinary output,
contractions, FHR before admin
