CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION TO SIWES
Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a skill development programme
established by the Decree of the Federal Government via Industrial Training Fund (ITF) in
1973 with the headquarters in Jos, Nigeria. It is an organized training intervention, usually
monitored, established on specific learning and career objectives and configured towards
developing the occupational competencies of the participants. ITF is operated under the
Ministry of Industries and governed by the governing council.

The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) was established in 1973 to promote the acquisition of
skills among students in faculties of Engineering, Sciences, Management and Technology in
order to bridge the gap between the theoretical learning process in the tertiary institution and
industrial practice. It aids students in the acquisition of industrial, commercial and managerial
skills in order to have sound, in-depth understanding of the principles that guides the nature
of one’s career. Students were attached to company related to their course of study in the
university for a certain period in order to observe the application of their course of study in
solving real life problem. There are bodies involved in the management of this programme,
the bodies involved are: The Federal Government, Industrial Training Fund (ITF). Other
supervising agents are: National University Commission (NUC).The National Board for
Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Council for Colleges of Education (NCE).

1.1 OBJECTIVES OF SIWES
The Industrial Training Funds policy document No. 1 of 1973 which established SIWES
outlined the objectives of the scheme. The objectives are to:
 Provide an avenue for students in the Nigerian universities to acquire industrial skills
and experience during their course of study.
 To prepare students for the work situation they are likely to meet after graduation.
 To expose the students to work methods and techniques in handling equipment and
machinery that may not be available in their universities.
 Allow the transition phase from school to the world of working environment easier
and facilitate students’ contact for later job placements.
 Provide students with an opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in real
world situations thereby bridging the gap between theory and practice.
The fulfillment of these SIWES objectives was at Mabstar Project Ltd, located at 9A,
Ademola-Ajasa Street, Omole Phase1 estate, Ojodu-Ikeja, Lagos state.
1.2 MERITS OF THE SIWES PROGRAMME
The SIWES programme has proved beneficial. It has been able to achieve the following:
i.
It gives industries the opportunity to evaluate prospective employees.
ii.
It gives students the opportunity to relate with professionals in their respective
disciplines, such contacts usually prove beneficial in the future.
iii.
It provides each student the opportunity for practical experience outside the
university.
iv.
It serves as an eye opener because students learn about which aspect of their
profession to specialize and plan for life after school.

2.0 INTRODUCTION TO MABSTAR PROJECT LIMITED
Mabstar Project Limited is a private liability company in the forefront of Electrical and
Mechanical Engineering segment of the construction industry in Nigeria, Situated at 9A,
Ademola-Ajasa Street, Omole Phase1 estate, Ojodu-Ikeja, Lagos state, one can safely say that
Mabstar Project Limited is one of the top three best M&E companies in Lagos, in the same
league with Elektrint Technologies and Construction Kaiser Ltd, and as a matter of fact, a
major figure in the said field in the whole of south western part of Nigeria.

2.1 HISTORY OF MABSTAR PROJECT LIMITED
The name of the company was coined from the name of the founder himself, Mr. Mufalilu
Akanbi Bankole, a renowned professional in the field of electrical and mechanical
engineering, far and wide. Mabstar Project Ltd has long been conceived by the major
promoter- Mr. Mufalilu Akanbi Bankole since 1987 to fill the much vaunted vacuum of
meeting the needs in the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering segment of the construction
industry in Nigeria.
Mr. Bankole, who was largely the brain behind the huge success and goodwill of Mabbsa
Nigeria Ltd(A merger between Mabstar Project Ltd and Boritech Technologies), is a
businessman, an engineer of long standing experience in the Electrical and Mechanical
Engineering sub-sector of the construction industry.
Until February 2013, he was an Executive Director and Co-founder of Mabbsa Nigeria Ltd
over the years, the construction industry in Nigeria had witnessed a huge leap in geometrical
progression of infrastructural development as the population grows.
Considering the fact that the industry had not enjoyed much profitability in the last 2 decades
due to its capital intensive nature, there still exist a huge gap of infrastructural development
yearning for construction engineers and companies to fill.
Mabstar is therefore properly positioned to fill this vacuum and provide the engineering
needs of the populace.
Mabstar Project Ltd has staff strength of fifty (50) individuals, which include twenty (20)
professionals and thirty (30) non-professionals. The company has a capital investment of
about five hundred million naira (#500,000,000)
2.2 VISION OF MABSTAR PROJECT LIMITED
To use the company as a source of employment and to meet the electrical and mechanical
engineering needs of Nigerians and citizens of neighboring West African countries.
2.3 MISSION OF MABSTAR PROJECT LIMITED
To be a major brand name for electrical and mechanical engineering works in Nigeria and
West African countries.
2.4 STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES OF MABSTAR PROJECT LIMITED
 To service the construction industries in Nigeria and West African countries.
 To be a reference point and a major brand in electrical and mechanical engineering
works in Nigeria and West African countries.
 To contribute significantly to the infrastructural development in Nigeria and West
