Answers for audience -to overcome these challenges, Ive found a few recommendations to manage this after-hours business communication. 1. Improve Training and Policies Regarding ‘‘After Hours’’ Communication My companies now have training on proper meeting etiquette, it would be beneļ¬cial for organizations (as well as each work group) to carefully establish protocols or boundaries for when work communication should and should not be sent. One of the important considerations for such a policy is to identify the most appropriate topics for discussion via electronic versus face-to-face communication. For example, an organization might discuss about sensitive concerns, such as job performance, or sales activities related, during a face-toface regular work hour instead. 2. Consider the Timing and Context Another important consideration is time and context. With respect to time, the sender should consider how much time the communication is likely to require in terms of both reading (and comprehending) as well as in responding to the request. For example, if the other co-worker is sending a link to ‘‘an interesting article that might help with your presentation’’ late at night before an important early morning presentation, that may cause the recipient to spend a considerable amount of time (that is clearly already limited). Unless if the sender is asking things or information that is readily accessible for example, the name of an important client’s spouse to the recipient, that is may not be viewed as burdensome, therefore it is considered appropriate to be send and reply.
