These new vaccines which could help reduce the number of deaths in children aged 5 years old and below includes: 4 • • • • • Hepatitis B Vaccine childhood meningitis vaccine Yellow fever vaccine Influenza vaccine vaccine for pneumonia In 2014, an estimated 18.7 million infants worldwide were not reached with routine immunization services such as the DTP3 vaccine. More than 60% of these children live in 10 countries: The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Nigeria and Pakistan, the Philippines, Uganda, and South Africa. Polio mainly affects children under 5 years of age. Today, only 2 countries (Afghanistan and Pakistan) remain polio-endemic, down from more than 125 in 1988.
