As of 2019, the organization coordinated donations from at least ten participating countries, operated childhood programs in 25 impoverished countries (including Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, Haiti, and Kenya), and involved more than two million participants, from infants through young adults, in its programs. Preliminary independent, secular research in the Journal of Political Economy studied the organization, concluding that it had large and statistically significant impacts on participants' years of school completion, the probability of later employment, as well as the quality of that employment, in part as a consequence of increased aspirations of participating children. How does Compassion International act compassionately? Every day, millions of children living in poverty around the world experience compassion as they participate in our Child Sponsorship Program. Thousands of local churches in low- and middle-income countries tailor our holistic child development model to the contextualized needs of the children in their communities to best deliver the care that the children need most. Each child assisted by our frontline church partners receives whole-life care that is personal, individualized, relational, and tailored to the child's age, gender, health, culture and family situation. Whole-life care means we begin, in some cases, with prenatal care and go all the way through young adulthood. It means we take a long-term approach to child development and provide opportunities that encourage healthy spiritual, physical, social and economic development to help each child fully mature in every facet of life. 7 The benefits of our Child Sponsorship Program include: Better health Better nutrition Educational and vocational support Safety and protection Socio-emotional development 8 CHILD SPONSORSHIP Children in the child sponsorship Program are provided food and clean water, medical care, education, life-skills training, and spiritual guidance through a direct sponsorship. Sponsored children are selected by the sponsors, and two-way communication is encouraged between the sponsored child and the sponsor. As of January 2019 the cost to sponsor a child through Compassion was US$38 per month, and globally there were over two million "babies, children and young adults" in its programs. Sponsors are able to visit their sponsored children through trips planned by Compassion International. Compassion's goal is to provide a trip to each country every other year. Compassion coordinates every aspect of the trip including travel, meals, tips and gratuities, fees related to the travel, and sightseeing fares. Compassion operated in India for 48 years, with its $45 million in transfers a year, making it India's largest single foreign donor. Compassion provided services under its Child Sponsor Program to 145,000 Indian children. In 2015, Compassion affiliates' offices were raided by tax investigators seeking evidence whether it was funding religious conversions. Compassion said it was then forced to direct funding to non-Christian Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh groups. Compassion refused to do so as it would be a misuse of funds that donors all around the world trusted them with. After talks back and forth, in 2017, the Government of India barred Compassion from transferring funds into India, forcing the group to close its operations in that country. The Ministry of External Affairs later clarified that the ban had nothing to do with the ideology of Compassion International 9 Compassion has been working in Kenya since 1980. These Kenya facts and statistics provide a good picture of the reality of poverty and how child sponsorship through Compassion is making a difference. Poverty is a problem in the country of Kenya but with your support, Compassion is working to change this. The Kenya facts tell a difficult story, but Compassion is bringing hope in the midst of the difficulties. Our programs are changing the statistics one child at a time. 10 BENEFICIARY SELECTION. During my attachment I was inviolved in beneficiary selection since our desire is to seve the neediest motheran, bibies , children and youth within its reach. Therefore, it is important to assess the relative poverty and vulnerability of those within our local community. This allows us to determine who we can best serve and impact while maintaining integrity in the program and with sponsors 11 CHALLENGES AND RECOMMEDATION Challenges Faced During the Attachment Workload There was a lot of work compared to the number of the employees in the organization and the customers handled per day. This led to working overtime to meet the day’s target and serve all the clients. Lack of Motivation Despite the work done by the employees, the organization management did not motivate their employee’s effort. The overtime work done by the employees was not compensated. Lack of Transparency There was no transparency on the handling of the cash in the organization that led to misappropriation of funds by the management. The organization did not provide the data on the money received and the interests made by the organization per month. Lack of Job Specialization The assigning of duties was done randomly without recognizing individuals’ qualifications that sometimes led to confusion in the organization. It was also difficult to handle the areas which were not the area of your specialisation. Language Barrier Dealing With Semi Illiterate Clients It was a challenge dealing with clients who were semi illiterate. Explaining and responding to their inquiries was a challenge. 12 CONCLUSION I gladly appreciate Juja sub-county development Authority for giving me an opportunity as an attaché in their organization. I have acquired a lot of knowledge in purchasing and supplies. I would also want to thank my Organization supervisor for the continued support during my period of placement, together with Mount Kenya University university Organization fraternity management department for the support offered. Corporate Internship is an important practical training as l was able to link theory with practice for instance what l learned. Due to exposure to different units in the Logistics Department, I was able to utilize my interpersonal skill especially when dealing finance. It has also enabled me to be a good time planner and cope with working of shifts between sections and met my objectives on time. RECOMMENDATIONS The department should train their current workforce on the proper records management practices for safe retrieval of the same in the future. The operation should increase the labour force in the Logistics management department as this would increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the employees. The Materials storage should be well ventilated and well-kept in order to preserve the items stored. The policies should be implemented in order to guide the Logistics management. The Operation should increase materials handling equipment to ensure effective and efficiency materials handling and storage. REFERENCES County government website Attachment log book. 13
