3) Once you have received the go-ahead, you need to become THE expert on this famous person, so
do lots of research. Check at least 3 different ENGLISH websites and watch 2 or 3 ENGLISH SPOKEN
clips/documentaries. Complete the log below of all your research (date / source) and compile a text
document with key elements of your research, which will form the basis of your presentation.

4) Having all the necessary information, now prepare a 4-5 minute talk on this person, in which you
inform your fellow pupils and myself about the more fascinating aspects of his/her life, his/her major
achievements, maybe any shortcomings but most definitely the reasons why this person truly
deserves to be called an icon in his/her field of expertise: how did he/she inspire others?
You support your talk with a powerpoint presentation which can only contain names, images and
numbers, but no other words or text. So photographs, pictures, symbols, dates, numbers, maps,
names (family, friend, spouse, company, organization, etc.) are allowed. Maximum 5 slides. If you
use any film material, these can only take up 1 minute in total (your talk will then definitely last 5
minutes) and this must be completely incorporated in your powerpoint (no separate access to
internet).

5) The presentations take place 18 February and onwards
At the start of the lesson when you will address the class, you hand in a printed hand-out of your
slides and any text you have written.

the content of your presentation : you need to prove that
*) you have researched this topic and you know the facts (sufficient, correct, well-balanced)
*) you have put in enough effort to turn this content into an interesting presentation (strong visuals)
*) you have structured the information : captivating introduction – strong body of information –
fitting conclusion.
the English you speak:
*) sufficiently complex: complex sentences, relevant choice of topic related words, where
appropriate : mature vocabulary, abstract words, idioms and expression
*) sufficiently correct: conjugation of verbs, adjective vs adverb, plurals, other grammatical aspects
*) sufficiently clear: clear diction, correct pronunciation
the delivery of your talk:
*) enthusiastic, confident attitude
*) fluent delivery, natural flow
*) natural intonation
*) good eye contact with all members of the audience.
