PROJECT: HYA 30/03/2022 METHOD STATEMENT TO PREVENT COLD JOINTS IN CONCRETE In order to prevent cold joints in concrete, we need to embark upon the key criteria: supply and concrete pouring. Concrete Supply 1. Under normal occasion, we need to ensure concrete provider have sufficient supply to eliminate long waiting time between batches during casting work. Earlier schedule and planning is required to achieve the target. 2. To minimize the interval time of different concrete grade (example grade 30 and 35) if the work involves casting of multiple structural components such as column, beam and slab. Managing the Concrete Pouring 1. To make sure area to be casted to have rough unfinished surface prior to concrete placing. To make the surface rough ensuring good bonding between two consecutive concrete layers if previous surface is hardened and insufficient roughness. 2. During casting work in beam and slab, the sequence shall be to pour beam and slab monolithically and the pouring of concrete should start from end corners and move towards the center. 3. Each layer of concrete should intermix properly via the help of vibrator. 4. In the case of sloping structure such as stairs, the work should proceed uphill which is started from the bottom and then move towards the top. 5. To lay high rib mesh between column and beam/slap reducing the risk of trapped air and voids within the concrete which can lead to cold joints and form crack in the future.
