The Buddhist Society in London is effectively our parent organisation although there is no formal
relationship. HBS is one of the societies formed by members of the Buddhist Society in the Sixties. The
web site includes details of its classes and courses, including the correspondence course on basic
Buddhism, Zen Sundays and the annual Summer School.
Chithurst Buddhist Monastery is a Theravada monastery in West Sussex. HBS has had a close
relationship with Chithurst since its foundation in the Seventies. Monks and nuns from Chithurst teach at
some HBS Theravada Group meetings. The web site includes details of current events and teachings in
audio and written form.
Amaravati Buddhist Monastery is the head of the group of Forest Sangha monasteries in the UK, one of
which is Chithurst. The web site includes details of current events and teachings in audio and written
form.
The Zen Centre was founded in the Seventies by Christmas Humphreys (founder of the Buddhist
Society) and Irmgard Schloegl (later ordained as Venerable Myokyo-ni). Its London home is the Shoboan temple. Some of its classes, including the Zen Sundays, take place at the Buddhist Society. The HBS
Zen Group has a close relationship with the Zen Centre. The web site includes details of current events
and teachings in audio and written form. Some of this material is in a member's section, access to which
is available to members of the HBS Zen Group.
Fairlight Zen Buddhist Temple in Luton is the second temple founded by the Zen Centre. The web site
has only contact information on the surface but it also includes a collection of Venerable Myokyo-ni's
recorded talks, access to which is available to those known to the temple.
The Zen Gateway is an online magazine edited by Martin Goodson, who is one of the senior teachers of
the Zen Centre. Some of the material is in audio form.
