CONCEPT ANALYSIS OF A DOCUMENTARY FILM PRESENTED BY: MELVIN A. ALMARIO PART I – INTRODUCING THE DOCUMENTARY FILM 'Brave Blue World' is the first documentary to depict humanity's acceptance of new technologies and ideas to rethink how we handle water in an honest and hopeful way. The narrative follows Paul O'Callaghan, a water industry expert and the CEO of BlueTech Research, as he traveled throughout the world looking for creative ways to address current water concerns. PART I – INTRODUCING THE DOCUMENTARY FILM This film shattered some long-held notions about water and altered our perceptions of it. It examines a different water future, as well as how we got to where we are now, before challenging some of the most popularly held water beliefs: • Is water scarcity a global issue? • Is there a water shortage? • Is it true that water is required for human survival? TITLE OF DOCUMENTARY: Brave Blue World: Racing to Solve Our Water Crisis SUMMARY: Liam Neeson narrates the documentary, which incorporates interviews with a variety of water specialists as well as high-profile activists Matt Damon and Jaden Smith. It features engaging stories, magnificent scenery, and examples from five continents to show how innovative remedies to water concerns can be found. The film covers water reuse, nutrient recovery, energy generation, decentralized treatment, and water digitization. SUMMARY: From a NASA research center where we learned how water is recycled in space to a textile plant in India that uses recycled water to meet 90% of its water needs, to the world's largest algae-powered wastewater treatment plant in Spain and a children's home in Kenya where humidity in the air provides 50 litres of water per day, there are many inspiring stories. PART II – IMPRESSION, REACTION AND REALIZATION IMPRESSION AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SHOW The film begins by emphasizing the importance of water to the environment, notably to humans. It was compared to curing cancer now, although cancer still exists in the globe after a hundred years. Governments all across the world are now increasingly acknowledging that there is a water crisis that needs to be addressed. With this condition I believe that IMPRESSION AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SHOW every country is obligated to collaborate in order to address water pollution, water scarcity, prejudice, and disparity. The prediction that nearly 2 billion people would live in waterstressed areas around the world by 2025 is quite concerning. Even individuals who live in rich countries will not have access to clean water if people do not act immediately. FEELINGS AND REALIZATION IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FILM Despite the global water crisis, there are organizations and individuals working selflessly to make safe drinking water available to everyone, especially those in the world's poorest countries. I'm shocked at how the world has disregarded this situation for decades, but it's finally being addressed on a micro level. FEELINGS AND REALIZATION IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FILM Interventions are being done in different communities to address the water situation, such as the Water Box, which is directed by Jadin Smith, Will Smith's son. Both actors are well-known in Hollywood. Majik Water, invented by Kenyan Beth Koigi, harnesses the wind and converts it to water vapor, which is then converted to drinking water. This course of action will soon get the globe out of its dilemma. RESOLUTION OF THOUGHTS TOWARDS THE ENDING There are reasons to believe that jointly addressing the water situation will reduce, if not eliminate, the problem. Requirements for a country's loan, policy reorganization, and strict recycling implementation can all help to address the decades-long water crisis. It is not simple. However, the political will of all nations can confront this catastrophe while it is still in its early stages. PART 3 - CONCEPTS LEARNED FROM THE DOCUMENTARY FILM LEARNED CONCEPT # 1 Water and its Importance Films’ Discussion About Learned Concept # 1 There is no substitute to water. It’s the most precious resource the humans have Drinkable water is needed for humans to survive. Water is needed in every human activities Learned Concept # 2 Water Crisis Films’ Discussion About Learned Concept # 2 Water crisis around the world is happening right now. Governments have failed in telling the truth about it. Almost 2 billion people are living without clean drinking water Pollution is making the water supplies unsafe. Learned Concept # 2 Water Crisis Films’ Discussion About Learned Concept # 2 Water infrastructures are outdated and difficulty to repair 7.7 billion people around the world is in need of water everyday Water crisis is a human-induced crisis If we don’t act now, the crisis is irrepairable Learned Concept # 3 Proposed Solutions to Water Crisis Films’ Discussion About Learned Concept # 3 The Water Box – filters and delivers 10 gallons of potable water every 60 seconds. Majik Water – extracts water by condensing water vapor in the atmosphere and convert it to potable water Water.org – an organization that raise funds to be used to build water facilities in poor nations Learned Concept # 3 Proposed Solutions to Water Crisis Films’ Discussion About Learned Concept # 3 Sanivation – provides home toilet, collects the manure and recycle it as biocharcoal Water Environment Federation – separates phosphorous in water and recycle it as organic fertilizer SELVAM PROCESS – Recycles textile processing water before it get flushed in the river Part 4: PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS PRESENTED IN THE DOCUMENTARY FILM VS PERSONAL RECOMMENDATION TO RESOLVE THE SAME PROBLEM Encountered Problem or Difficulty # 1 Lead in the Water Solution for P/D # 1 Presented in the Film Treat the water using The Water Box Your Suggested Solution to P/D # 1 The Water Box must have a portable version so that it can be used anywhere, anytime and under any weather condition Encountered Problem or Difficulty # 2 Scarcity of water facilities Solution for P/D # 2 Presented in the Film Water.org raised funds for communities of poor nations and providing them facilities that provides potable water. Your Suggested Solution to P/D # 2 Every government must have mandatory water facilities in every community. It must be a requirement before they can loan to World Bank or IMF Encountered Problem or Difficulty # 3 Factories that pollutes the water by their wastes Solution for P/D # 3 Presented in the Film Recycling processed water before it is dumped in river streams, lakes or the ocean Your Suggested Solution to P/D # 3 Governments should strictly monitors the operation of these plants so that it will abide the law. A monitoring mechanism must be in place and every plant must have a monitoring individual to assess the operation of the plant everyday. PART 5: RECOMMENDATIONS THAT MAY IMPROVE THE DOCUMENTARY FILM Part that needs improvement # 1 The movie lasts for 50 minutes only Recommendation # 1 It must be a series Reasons for Recommendation # 1 This is a highly recommended film. Making it a series can tackle many problems about this crisis and other solutions can be proposed Part that needs improvement # 2 Africa was the highlight of the movie as the continent with very problematic nations Recommendation # 2 The solutions must address problems even for other poor countries too. Reasons for Recommendation # 2 There are nations that need to address their water crisis too like Asia especially those nations that belong to third world countries Part that needs improvement # 3 Proposed solution for water crisis Recommendation # 3 The movie should focus on alternatives solutions that are eco-friendly and will not degrade other parts of the ecosystem Reasons for Recommendation # 3 Water treatment is important but the waste chemicals coming from the treatment can harm the soil or the atmosphere. Treatment facilities should ensure that the wastes will not be toxic when it will be dumped Part 6: Rating the Documentary Film Factors considered in rating and score FACTOR SCORE WEIGHT INFORMATIVE 9/10 50% ENTERTAINING 9/10 20% SOCIAL RELEVANCE 9/10 20% PRODUCTION/ AESTHETIC VALUE 10/10 10% Final Rating: 91% Interpretation of the Rating A must see movie.
