My Dream I dream of a place that is completely still. A place unaffected by the rapid swirling of life as we know it. An abyss in the middle of an infinitesimal chaos. Like the eye of a storm, only quieter. A place where I can go, when tired of the harsh realities of life. A sanctuary against hate, prejudice, and abuse. Where I can be a refugee fleeing death and trauma. Void of all pain! I sit within as my place stands completely still. A mere observer, watching as earth spirals by uncontrollably Around and around it goes But, my place is unaffected or disturbed I watch as distorted figures scream and yell at each other. Tearing each other up, like a pack of wild dogs Snarling and growling like savages, like animals. But, I sit and observe, disconnected from it all Suddenly, my place begins to crumble I watch as the walls fall down From a light drizzle of debris Quickly turning into a downpour I listen as the screams of life echo louder and louder Inching closer with each and every breath I feel the ground quake, as if longing to be free But, terrified to be reunited with its other half, a treacherous and injurious world I taste the air as dust swirls around me One bite turning into several Several quickly turns into thousands Within seconds my lungs are overwhelmed, I struggle to see or breath I close my eyes and hold my breath Desperate to prevent losing sight Desperate to prevent losing traction with the ground, Desperately holding on for my life Unfortunately, the work has already begun The effect was already showing Dust filled my eyes and lungs Asphyxiating and blinding me, leaving me helpless and afraid I fight to keep my lungs open Reaching for the last bit of air I could find I to grasp for something, anything To wipe my mouth and clean my eyes with I reach for an old blood-stained overalls nearby Using it to clean my face, my vision and breath return Slowly, I relax as the sight of a butchery becomes clearer The smell of burning meat, smites my throat Punishing me for breathing I look around for the animals kept in the farm But, only find corpses of those who lived Hoping for life, I find death Instantly, a jolt of energy surges through me I climb awake All to familiar with where I am, I am home inside of the mayhem, the true chaos I sigh, wishing that my place was a reality!
