Requirements: ● The prerequisite for MATH1180 is MATH1100 (C or above) or placement score. ● The textbook is Essentials of Statistics, 5th Edition by Triola, Pearson, 2014, ISBN # 1-269-93896-7 (with MyStatLab Access) or ISBN # 0321924592 (no MyStatLab). ● Students are required to have a scientific or graphing calculator. Course Description: In this course we will study descriptive statistics, probability and probability distributions, and topics from inferential statistics, including interval estimates and hypothesis testing. Homework: Students are strongly encouraged to work on the assigned exercises (see reverse side). Working in groups is also encouraged. Homework will not be collected. However, most students will find that they need to work a majority of the assigned exercises to be successful. Attendance: In order to receive maximum benefit from this course, it is necessary that you attend all class meetings and do the assigned exercises. If you do miss a class, you are responsible for the material covered. If you must miss class the day of a test, notify me in advance and make arrangements for a make-up. SOUTHEAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE LINCOLN CAMPUS Course Format: Every TH, we will have a 10-15 minute at the beginning of the class. Each quiz will be worth 10 points. All quiz exercises will be similar to the homework exercises assigned in the syllabus. Students will not be allowed to make up missed quizzes. The lowest 2 quiz scores will be dropped for each student. Work must be shown on quizzes and exams to earn full credit unless otherwise indicated! In most cases, you will be allowed to use a calculator and the formula sheet on quizzes and exams, but no notes or textbook. Aside from occasional bonus questions on quizzes/exams, extra credit will NOT be available. If assignments are turned in late, the first day is 20%, 50% and 0% maximum credit earned.. Below is an approximate schedule. The instructor may vary the pacing, content, and exam schedule. If you must miss a class, please make arrangements to get important class announcements. You should read the lecture material before class, and do the indicated homework after the lecture on the material. SCC Policies: Last Date for Student Initiated Drop: The last date a student may withdraw from the course without the permission of the instructor and the dean is__________. After that date, permission will be granted only in extenuating circumstances! It is recommended that students receiving financial aid should contact the financial aid office prior to withdrawing from a course to determine how their aid may be affected. Grades of Incomplete: A grade of “I” for a course is reserved for individuals that have completed 75% or more of the coursework with a grade of “C” or better, but due to situations beyond their control cannot complete the last few assignments for the course. In these situations, the individual enters into a contract with the course instructor to complete the remaining course assignments within a month after the end of the quarter.
