Call to Action

advertisement
Queer &Trans folk,
To all my
This is a call to you. The metaphorical house of
protection that had been built by the Obama
Administration to protect us, is being burned to the
ground. Actually, the entire minority neighborhood of
the United States seems to be engulfed in flames. Our
so called “president” has successfully revoked our
legal protections against discrimination in the
healthcare system.
Let
me
repeat
. The president of the
United states, the person who is supposed to protect us
in times of crisis, and provide us with basic
protections, has struck the match and decided that our
lives aren't worth protecting. A law that had been put
in place to ensure that LGBTQ+ folk never have to
suffer and die at the hands of ignorance, a law that
cost the government no extra funding to keep in place,
a law that provides basic protections, has been TAKEN
from us. Not only did he do this during a revolution to
achieve protection of innocent black lives, but during
a WORLDWIDE pandemic that has taken over 100,000
American lives. Without these protections, they can
legally exterminate us. Not that this is the first time
in which LGBTQ+ health has been dismissed all together.
We must not forget that less than 40 years ago the
Reagan Administration let an epidemic that seemingly
only affected the gay community (news flash, it
affected anyone having unprotected sex) go untreated
despite the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of young, queer,
people who died during his presidency. THEY DO NOT CARE
ABOUT US! If their mindless followers will support them
more by letting these atrocities occur, you may as well
start planning your funeral now. Now is not the time
for sugar coating, now is the time we demand change. We
must march, protest, vote, petition, and fight the fire
they have lit in our own backyards. We are NOT weak and
NOT disposable. We will not let history repeat itself,
we are smarter than that. We are here and queer and
ready to kick some fucking ass.
Queer generation,
To the older
Are you aware that history is repeating itself? Or
have you forgotten that we are still fighting in
the streets for our basic human rights? If I am
being honest it seems that many of you have checked
out of the revolution since Obama legalized same
sex marriage. I will be thankful everyday that we
get this same right as everyone else in the
country, but the fight is not over. We understand
that you have been fighting this fight a very long
time, but you can’t give up. Maybe you even came
out after the last wave of change and feel lost
because you weren’t there to fight the good fight
the first time. We do not judge you. We need you.
Without you behind us, history will only repeat
itself. This is your chance to spark new light and
hope into a rather dark world. Don’t you see? Any
friend, family member, or stranger you knew that
died in the AIDS crisis or protesting the system
will have died for absolutely NOTHING if you do not
join this fight. Your voices, your stories, your
experiences, can help us create a safer and more
equal world for our youth to grow up in. We will
not stand to let them grow up in a world that is
seemingly safe but turns its back on them when they
need them the most. This revolution is happening
whether you join or not, but I beg of you to think
of a better future, and be the people we need you
to be to help achieve it. We call on you to educate
our queer youth. We call on you to stand with us as
we march through the streets, bearing signs with
the same messages held with you not so long ago. We
call on you to fight to solidify a world of
equality in which your children, grandchildren, and
great grandchildren can call home. We call on you.
LGBTQ+ allies,
To the
Where are you? Or should I say, what are you doing?
I see so many posts from you all saying how you
stand with us and support us in these times of
crisis, but how? Have you made, signed and shared
petitions? Have you donated to bail funds of the
black trans women who have been arrested fighting
two battles in one? Or even actively stood against
hate and prejudice putting your own reputation on
the line to save our name? Not doing these things,
or actions like them does not make you a bad
person, but it doesn’t make you an ally. There is
still time for change. We need you. We need you to
join us as we march through the streets demanding
the rights that you have. We need you to sign the
petitions and spread the word even if it makes your
friends uncomfortable. Imagine how uncomfortable we
are knowing that if we contract a deadly illness a
doctor can legally refuse to treat us because of
the gender we present as or the person we choose to
love. The time for you to prove your allyship is
now. We are at war; With the very institution which
is supposed to protect us. Our legal right to
healthcare has been rebuked, the ability to adopt
children in the system is about to be taken away
from us, there are still states in which
electroshock conversion therapy is legal, we can
still be denied housing and employment, and there
is still absolutely no education of LGBTQ+ history
or of sexuality in the classrooms of our youth.
Your fight is not over because you “stand in
solidarity”, change never happened from standing.
We call on you to fight for us. We call on you to
educate against ignorance. We call on you to
protect the queer and trans folk being beaten down
physically and mentally. We call on you now. Please
hear us.
ANYONE
To
else who believes in the right to life,
You may be aware, or you may not, but the
revolution is coming. We can’t stand idly by
anymore and let the lives of LGBTQ+ folk, black
people, immigrants, and so many more be taken
without retribution. If you exist in a position of
privilege, we need you to realize that the world's
only hope is to read these calls and jump into
action. If you believe that everyone deserves the
right to life, you will not support the oppressive
regime that runs America. Minority or not, we are
dying at mass rates. Even the most privileged among
us have fallen in response to the irresponsibility
and ignorance of our government. They have provided
inadequate healthcare supplies in the middle of a
pandemic in which they were warned about a month in
advance, and then turned around 2 days after
protests for justice with military grade riot gear,
to gas and shoot at innocent protesters and
children. I am not telling you to change all of
your political opinions. But you have got to see
that COVID isn’t the only plague running America
into the ground. Ignorance. Ignorance to the
atrocities that have been committed to every.
single. american. We are not asking you to attend
our pride parades but to simply wake up. We are
here to educate you, we are here to make change for
everyone. If you truly believe that all lives
matter then you will take a stand against the
violence that has affected so many of your own
neighbors. We don’t want to have to riot in the
streets or march on Washington, we need to. We need
you to understand that we don’t want to die the
same way you don’t. That we love, fear, hate, and
grieve just as you do. That we are human beings
fighting because we just want to live without fear.
So please, see the injustices that LGBTQ+ people
face. The discrimination, the violence, the hate,
just for existing. See the pain and suffering black
people are fighting against every single day. When
they go for a jog, go to the gas station, sell
CD’s, sleep in their own homes, sell cigarettes,
have a blinker out, or get accused of flirting with
a white woman. See the heartbroken mothers and
fathers whose children are in government custody,
for the crime of existing. Children in cages being
raped, beaten, and starved can not be viewed as
something normal in America. None of this is
normal. Do not desensitize yourself. We call on you
to educate yourselves on the violence against
innocent people. We call on you to see the change
that is going to happen whether you want it to or
not. We call on you to vote against another four
years of violence and death. We call on you to wake
up.
