Laboratory Apparatus
Activity No. 1
Research common laboratory apparatus found in a chemistry laboratory. Carefully draw or
provide a picture of 20 glassware or laboratory apparatus and give their function.

1. Beaker
Used to hold varying volumes
of liquid. Also, used to heat
liquids.
2. Test tubes
Holds small amounts of liquids
for mixing or heating.
3. Erlenmeyer flask
Narrow-mouthed container
used to transport, heat, or
store substance.
4. Volumetric flask
Flask calibrated to contain a
precise volume at a particular
temperature. Used for precise
dilutions
and
creating
standard solutions
5. Florence flask
Flask with a round body and
flat bottom. Used to hold and
heat liquid.
6. Mortar & pestle
Mortar and pestle are
implements
used
since
ancient times to prepare
ingredients or substances by
crushing and grinding them
into a fine paste or powder in
the laboratory.
7. Funnel
Used to pour liquids into
containers
with
small
openings; also used to hold
filter paper.

8. Watch Glass
It is normally used to hold
solids, evaporate liquids, and
heat small quantities of
different substances as per
the need of the experiment.
Sometimes,
they
also
become functional in serving
as a lid for the beakers.
9.
Stirring
Rod/Glass Rod
A glass stirring rod, glass rod,
stirring rod or stir rod is a
piece of laboratory equipment
used to mix chemicals and
liquids
for
laboratory
purposes. They are usually
made of solid glass, about the
thickness and slightly longer
than a drinking straw, with
rounded ends.
10.
Graduated
Cylinder
These
are
cylindrical
apparatus
with
several
markings up and down the
length of the container with
the primary function dealing
with proper measurement of
a specific volume of liquid
with precision.
11. Hot plate
Used for consistent heat; used
to heat substances that may
be flammable.
12. Forceps
Used in dissection to grasp
tissues or pick up small items.
13. Meker Burner
Meker burners provides a
hotter flame than a standard
Bunsen burner, and one with
a larger diameter. It provides
heat through the burning of a
gas flame. Meker Burner is
used for heating, sterilization,
and combustion.

14.
Burner
Bunsen
Bunsen burner is a kind of gas
burner used as laboratory
equipment; it produces a
single open gas flame, and is
used for heating, sterilization,
and combustion. The gas can
be natural gas (which is
mainly methane) or a
liquefied petroleum gas, such
as propane, butane, or a
mixture.
15. Petri Dish
Petri dish is a shallow
transparent glass or plastic
cylindrical lidded dish, used to
contain a thin layer of agar on
which to grow bacteria and
fungi.
16. Pipette
Pipettes
are
used
for
transferring liquids with a
fixed volume and quantity of
liquid must be known to a
high degree of accuracy.
17. Balance Scale
Balances
are
used
to
determine the mass of a
reagant or object.
18. Wash Bottle
A wash bottle is a squeeze
bottle with a nozzle, used to
rinse various pieces of
laboratory glassware, such as
test tubes and round bottom
flasks. Wash bottles are
sealed with a screw-top lid.
19. Burette
A burette is a graduated glass
tube used to measure and
dispense small volumes of
liquid.

20. Thermometer
A laboratory thermometer is
used for measuring the
temperature of liquids.
