In some countries young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting university studies. Others, however, disagree with the view. Discuss both view and give your opinion. People have different opinions about whether teenagers are encouraged to have a gap year before starting their university studies. I personally believe that young people should not have a gap year. On the one hand, there are a number of reasons why some believe that young people should be encouraged to have a gap year. The main reason is that a gap year can help teenagers become more confident when they attend to university. With a gap year for travelling or working, people can have more experience for their works or studies later. For example, when people travel, they can enlarge their knowledge about different cultures and they also can learn other languages. In addition, a gap year can help people prepare for adult challenging life such as being independent from parents. Therefore, when they have to live alone, they still know how to take care of and improve themselves. On the other hand, I would argue that a gap year is not suitable for young people. The first reason is that when students have a year rest, they would forget what they have learned at high school, so it would take them a lot of time to learn again. The second reason is it would be difficult for young people who have taken a break from school to be disciplined as they used to. The reason is that they have experienced a life free of school responsibilities when they have a gap year. As a result, they are unlikely to fit in educational environment. Moreover, young people can choose to pursue their study in a different city or country, which gives them chance to learn and explore the world at the same time without having to delay their education at school. In conclusion, although some people believe that students should have gap year, I personally believe that students should not do that.
