Course Outline – Chemistry 30
St. Anne Academic Centre (Online Instruction)
2020-21 Quarter 4
Instructor: Mr. Simon Lee (simon.lee@cssd.ab.ca)
Course description: How can you predict chemical equilibrium? Chemistry 30 students examine and quantify how
thermochemical and electrochemical systems use or provide energy. They explore common organic compounds—those
that contain carbon—and how they are used in technological applications and everyday life. Students also investigate
acid-base reactions and interpret how they eventually reach equilibrium.
Prerequisite: Chemistry 20 (a minimum of 65% is recommended)
Textbook: Nelson Chemistry (2007)
Course Evaluation:
Unit A: Thermochemical Changes (20%)
Unit B: Electrochemical Changes (30%)

Expectations:
Students are expected to attend class daily on google meet and use the provided time to complete all assignments.
Course information will be located on Brightspace (D2L) including an outline of the day’s lessons, handouts and
resources, assignments and due dates, assessment dates and online quizzes and tests.
Work missed due to excused absences will be rescheduled with the teacher (time permitting). Assignments, quizzes,
and tests missed due to unexcused absences will result in a mark of zero.
Academic dishonesty will result in a mark of zero.
Additional tutorial time can be scheduled before or after school by appointment.
Reassessment is possible for assignments and quizzes, however there must be some work done on your part to receive
the reassessment. Your teacher will outline procedures and timelines for you to follow should you wish to reassess.
Reassessment is possible for unit exams as well. You will be given an opportunity to re-write one unit exam at the end of
the course, however you may need to complete some tasks first as outlined by your teacher.
