Identify and describe briefly the different facilities and equipment of volleyball.
Here are the essential facilities and equipment in playing volleyball:
a. Volleyball Court – It is a flat rectangular playing court for the game of volleyball measuring 60
feet x 30 feet or 18 meters long and 9 meters wide. There are four kinds of lines that can be
seen on the court called the service line, center line, attack line, and boundary lines. The service
line is the line behind the baseline that the server stands behind before each serve. The center
line, on the other hand, is located directly in the middle of the court, right underneath the net and
it cuts the court in half. Another line is the attack line that is mark between the frontcourts and
backcourts, dividing each side for front and back row players. Lastly, the boundary lines which
refers to the two sidelines and two baselines that are mark in the court to separate in-bounds
from out-of-bounds.
b. Ball – The ball in volleyball game is a spherical ball of 65 cm to 67 cm circumference. It is
made of leather or any synthetic material and weighs 260 grams to 280 grams.
c. Net – In volleyball, the net is one meter long and 9.5 meters to 10 meters wide. It is tied
vertically above the center line of the court, at a distance of one meter from the sidelines. The
center of the net should lie 8 feet above the ground for men, and 7 feet and 4 inches for women.
d. Net Posts –The volleyball posts are positioned 36 feet apart and 3 feet further out from the
sidelines. They are 2.55 meters high and preferably adjustable.
e. Antenna –It is a vertical rod that is attached on the top of each end of the volleyball net. Each
antenna is 1.80 meters long and 10 millimeters in diameter. These antennae help volleyball
players and referees determine when the ball goes outside the court.
