Topic : Combating Xenophobia and Bigotry in Sudan
The victimization and abuse of migrants and refugees in Sudan is nothing new he police have been
given license to round up the poorest and most vulnerable of Khartoum refugee and migrant
residents. Eritrean, Ethiopian, Syrian refugees and migrants . They are arrested and then forced
to bail themselves out of detention by paying hefty fines ranging from 50,000 to 100,
000Sudanese pounds ($1,100-2,200) in what can only be described as an extortion campaign.
According to the United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR, there are more than 123,000 Eritrean
refugees residing in Sudan. In Khartoum migrants generally subject to recurrent waves of harassment
and violence, and considerable risk of human trafficking and and . Women and girls, meanwhile, face
the added threat of sexual exploitation.The policies targets refugees and migrants who are working
in Sudan as petty traders, shopkeepers, food-sellers and peddlers. The security forces interpret the
decree to be even broader in scope to target any foreigner who is trying to living in Sudan.
All refugees especially women, are exposed to high levels of violence and exploitation, and job
seekers often find few opportunities and may be forced to work illegally or in dangerous conditions.
And a stable childhood, and acquire little or no productive skills or have few job opportunities.
As a result, now all refugees and migrants who work as labourer, handymen, barbers, rickshaw
drivers and domestic workers are under attack in Sudan ,and they considered as competitive in the
workforce market , and raising the risk of human traffic. However, how punishing Eritrean domestic
workers and shopkeepers is supposed to help save the national economy.

To eleminate the manifestation of Xenophbia provide some recommendations and solutions in the following:1- Combat manifestation of a generalized rejection of migrants and actively to discourage all racist demonsrtations and act
the generate Xenophobic behaviour and negative sentiments toward , or rejection of migrants .
2- Invites international and national non-governmental organizations to include to include monitoring and protection of
human rights of migrants on their programmes and activityies and sensitize government and increase public awareness
in aboutthe need to prevent rciat acts and manifestation of discrimination , Xenophobia and related intolerance against
migrants .
3-Government should promote and protect fully and effectively the human rights and fundamental freedom of all
migrants , in conformity with the universal declaration of human rights and their obligations under the human right
instruments , regardless of the migrants immigration status .
4-Encourge to promoteeducation on human rights of migrants and to engage in information campagin to ensure that
public services accurate information regarding migrants and immigration issues , including the poitive contribution of
migrants to the socity and thee vulnerability of migrants particularly those who are in an ierregular situation .
5- Take concrete measure that would eliminate racism , racial discrimination , Xenophobia and related itolerance in the
workplace against all workers , including migrants , and ensure the full equality of all before the law , including labour law ,
and eliminate barriers , where appropriate , to participating in vocational training , colllective bargaining , employments ,
contracts and trade union activity : accessing judicial and adminstrative tribunals dealing with grievance :seeking
employment in different parts of their country of residence , and working in safe and healthy conditions.
6- To ensure that migrants , regardless of their immigration status , detained by public authorities are treated with
humanity and in a fair manner , and recieve effective legal protection , and whre appropriate the asisstance of a
competent interpreter in accordance with the relevant norms of international law and human rights standards .
7-To take all possible measure to promote the full enjoyment by all migrants of all human rights including those related
to fair wages and equal remuneration for work of equal value without distinction of any kinf , and to the right to security in
the event of unemployment , sickness , dissability , widowhood , old age or otherlack of livlihood in circumstances
beyond their control , social security , including social insurance , access to education , health care , social services and
respect of their social identity .
8-Take efective step to protect them especially women and girls from violence , to investigate any such violations and
bring those responsible to justice .
9-Mainstreaming migration into development and poverty reduction plans .
10-Encourge the business sector , in particular the tourist indutry and internet providers , to develop codes and conduct ,
with a view to preventing trafficking in persons and protecting the victims of such traffic.
