"Reading news article or websites about science is a great way to learn
about new ideas."1
It's also a way for scientists to learn about new technologies and research.
Scientists often use other scientists ideas and data to design their own
experiments.
This activity will help you analyze a science news article.
Step one of this assignment is to have students choose an article that involves science that
interests them. It can be from a printed (magazine/newspaper) or on-line source (website or
blog). Choosing an area of science that interests the student will make the assignment fun.
Step two is to fill out the worksheet.
The key ideas must be paraphrased, put in your own words. Key ideas are things in the article
that answer questions like, “what’s the big deal about this article?” or “what’s most interesting
about the article?”
Summaries should include the key ideas and an opinion that you have about the article.
