Journal Entry: Module 3 The last couple of weeks have been challenging, coming back after the long break and beginning a new semester always has its challenges. Getting students back into the routine of things as well as thinking about the new semester and school year coming to an end is stressful for teachers. It’s that time of year that we begin thinking about how prepared our students will be for the next grade level and taking the necessary steps to get them there. Our textbook readings this week came at the perfect time. One of my favorite quotes from the reading was, “Learning has nothing to do with what the teacher covers. Learning has to do with what the student accomplishes” (Wang, 2018, p.220). Wang (2018) talks about how good instruction for students’ success is fifteen to twenty times more powerful than any other variable the student is facing. I think that was important for me to read as this year I have students dealing with a variety of things outside the classroom. It was a motivating factor to make sure as their teacher that my instruction is delivered to them in the most effective way for them to learn it. I’m grateful to work within a school with teachers and administrators who value quality education and collaboration. It makes for a much better teaching and learning environment for myself and the students. We are blessed to be equipped with all the resources we need, being provided with a wealth of information within the district curriculum and being able to collaboratively plan as a grade level and team has been beyond helpful. In my short experience as a teacher, understanding the curriculum, pacing guide, and lesson planning has been one of the most difficult and harder learning curves for me so being supported and guide to help broaden my expertise and comfortability level in that is priceless.
