in Marble Falls, Texas making

And every weekday, from 5 am in the morning until 10 pm at

Or clearing trails and tending to animals on the property
(including a Zebra).
Not only was I ridiculously tan back then…
But I was also in the best shape of my life…
And on weekends…
You could find me playing guitar, writing fiction, exploring the
Hill Country, or heading into Austin to swim at Barton
Springs then party it up in the night.
I was really, truly content…
And I thought that maybe being an outdoor, nature-lovingdude was my true calling.
But then in May of 2011 I got the phone call that changed

Plus, when it came to writing
copy, I really had no idea what

I was smart enough to “model off” other people’s successful

A practice that’s also known as swiping, and that I continue

Yet I’d still find myself procrastinating and putting off
the copy gigs I had…
Because I didn’t really know where to start…

Only to find myself stuck, with no idea where to go next.

The big turning point
for me came in late
2013…
When I got hired off
Warrior Forum by a
guy named Yi.
At this point, I was
charging $497 per
sales letter…
But when Yi hired
me, he sent $997 to
my PayPal…
And told me to just make sure the copy was really good.
Besides paying me double my asking price though…
Yi also told me he was available to chat about the
project at any point…
Meaning I could bounce ideas off of him, share progress,
and make sure I was on the right track.

There was just one small
problem: Yi Was Crazy

So whenever I told Yi it would take me 14 days to write an

“Okay, what’s the first thing I

RESEARCH
I needed to understand the market I was selling too…
But not in just some broad, bland sense…

So that was one aspect of research…
But there was even more.
Because in terms of research…
I also needed to understand what solutions for the
prospect’s pain point already existed…
And what the prospect liked, and hated, about those existing
solutions…
Otherwise I’d never be able to differentiate between the
product I was selling…
And what the prospect had used in the past.
Total I came up with a list of 22 research questions that I
needed to answer…

And I realized that when it came to finding the answers to
those questions…
There were really only two places that I tended to go:
Forums and Amazon.
Forums are amazing because they let you “spy” in on
private conversations that your prospects are having…
You get to hear their stories, learn their struggles, and
discover their hopes and dreams…
Plus, you get to know their language patterns and see how
they think and talk.
Meanwhile with Amazon…
That’s really all about product differentiation.
The best way to use Amazon for research…

Then for each of those sections…
I broke them down into smaller bullet points - 53 in
total…
And after I’d finished creating my in-depth outline…
I found that I had this beautiful, follow-along checklist…
And that if I just went through each bullet in the outline, in
order…
It would be pretty much impossible not to create a well put
together sales letter.
So those were my four steps:
Research, Mechanism, Brief,
and Copy…
Or just RMBC for short.
And while these steps might sound like they’re a lot of
work…
When I took my RMBC Method and tested it out on my first
sales letter…
I was blown away by how fast and easy the copywriting
process became:

The Research part of the system took me about 3
hours…
The Mechanism took me about 3 hours too…
The Brief took me about 2 hours…
And because so many of the sections of my sales letter had
already been written during those parts…
The Copy took me about 8 hours to write and edit.
In other words…
I was able to write an 8,000 word sales letter in about
sixteen hours…
And I remember thinking…
“Holy SHIT. I really can write a
sales letter in a day!”
Even more importantly…
It was a damn good sales letter…
And the reason why that letter was so damn good…
Is because this RMBC Method forced me to check all of the
