Professor, NITTTR Chandigarh About the workshop ‘Nano-scale science and engineering seek to discover, describe and manipulate the unique properties of matter at the nanoscale in order to develop new capabilities with potential applications across all fields of science, engineering, technology and medicine. Characterization and analysis of materials including their characteristic sizes and size distribution has becoming increasingly important because many of the properties of nanomaterials’ depend on the size and uniformity of nano features. Tailoring nanomaterials for specific function requires precise understanding, and visualization of structure/properties relation at an unprecedented level. The department was established along with the inception of this institute in 1967, and has the current faculty strength of two Professors, one Associate Professor and one Assistant Professor. The department conducts short-term courses in emerging areas of Applied Science- Applied Physics, Applied Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, etc. It has well equipped laboratories: Applied Physics, Laser & Fiber Optics, Optical Fiber Communication and Nanoscience & Nanotechnology. These laboratories have latest equipment like He-Ne and Semiconductor lasers, Advanced laser kits, Fiber optics trainers, OFC system design and simulation softwares, Radiation detectors & counting systems, Ultrasonic interferometers, Atomic Force Microscope, Spectrophotometer in addition to conventional experiments in physics for graduate and post-graduate courses. National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chandigarh, an ISO 9001-2015 certified institute, is one of the four national institutes established by the Government of India in 1967 for the growth and development of technical education in the country. It is now reckoned as a resource institute for the technical education system providing services to its clientele covering faculty/staff of technical institutions, officials of directorates/boards of technical education, central and stategovt. departments, industry, students from technical institutes and trainees from overseas. The institute undertakes the following spectrum of activities: Education and Training Programmes, Curriculum Development, Instructional Material Development, Research and Development, Extension Services, Consultancy in Technical Education and Technology areas. The institute offers ME/PhD Programmes in various disciplines.
