CONTENTS/NOTES
CONSUMER RIGHTS
In life, no one can do without buying one thing or the other. A consumer is someone who buys goods and
services for his or her own final use or benefits. In this case, it could be what we eat, drink or services people render
to us. You are expected to find out before request is made of goods and services.
In Nigeria, there are laws that protect the buyer [consumer] and the seller [producer] in buying and selling
relationship. These information are to ensure that buyers have correct information about the goods and services for
sale. The laws relate to quality, quantity, price, durability, safety and protection from hazards.
It is the duty of the seller or producer to give adequate information or education to an interesting buyer
before transaction is made .This explains why information is printed on some produce such as drugs, foods, and
equipment.
There is agency that regulates and protects the rights of consumer and producer. It is called Consumer
Protection Council. The agency looks into cases brought before it and clarification is made.
