The South Asia Region Context
We need the greatest talent focused on our region in order to harness the potential
and innovation happening across the continent.
The South Asia Region (SAR) comprises eight countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh,
Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka) that range in size from
India (with a population of over 1 billion) to Maldives (with 0.4 million people). The
region has experienced a long period of robust economic growth, averaging 6% a
year over the past 20 years. Up to 2019, it was the fastest growing region in the
world, yet the region remains home to one-third of the world’s poorest. There are
severe forms of exclusion and disparities based on ethnicity, caste, and gender.
SAR has been affected by the COVID pandemic despite an early and strict
lockdown, severely affecting livelihoods and reducing economic growth and
employment to its worse levels ever recorded.
Are you ready to make an impact? We are looking for dedicated professionals to
join our innovative and diverse team to improve people’s lives and help countries
build back better after COVID!

Country Context
Even though there is sign of improvement, Pakistan has made limited and uneven
progress in improving nutritional and health outcomes of children and mothers.
The 2017/18 PDHS indicates that declines in child mortality rates have been slow
and the rates of change vis-à-vis child malnutrition indicators has been also
nominal since 1965, with more than one in three children being stunted!
Malnutrition is also prevalent among women of reproductive age and maternal
morality ratio is also higher than those of other countries in the region.
The HNP portfolio in Pakistan includes three projects under implementation: the
Pandemic Response Effectiveness in Pakistan (PREP), the National Immunization
Support Project (NISP), and the Balochistan Human Capital Investment Project.
