Nouns
 are words to name a person, thing, idea
or anything that is seen around to help
people identify what they talk and think
about.
Kinds of Nouns
 Common Nouns – are names of any one of the class of people, places,
or things. This kind of noun is not capitalized.
 Proper Nouns - names a specific person, place, or things. This kind of
noun is capitalized.

Kinds of Nouns
 Collective Nouns – are names of a group of people, objects, animals or
things. When the members of a collective noun are performing an action
as individuals, use a plural verb; the group is not acting together as a
unit. When all the members of a collective noun are performing an
action as a unit, use a singular verb.

 Countable Nouns – names of things that can be counted, like box,

 Mass Nouns (Uncountable nouns) – names things that cannot be
counted, like rice, flour, sugar, water, coffee.

 Abstract Nouns – are names of names ideas, concepts, and emotions
which cannot be experienced concretely or touched physically.
 Ideas, qualities, or conditions like love, hate, power, freedom, faith,
anger, honesty, etc. are all examples of abstract nouns.

 Concrete Nouns – are nouns that can be perceived by at least one of
our five senses. They are nouns that refer to things that exist physically
and can be touched, seen, smelled, felt, or tasted.
 Examples are dog, salt, wool, wallet, flowers, trees, paper, etc.

 Compound Nouns – are nouns made up of two or more words but
refer only to one item like horseback, classroom, network and
bandwidth.
