Conscience lesson 6 St Augustine and St Paul believe that it is innate and given from birth St Paul believes it is witness to the law and Augustine believes it is voice of God. St Thomas Aquinas believes it is the innate rational part which guides moral conduct. Butler believes conscience is innate reflective principle and it is placed in us at birth but can make decisions for us. Prudence and omnibenevolence Fletchers view is that conscience is something we are doing and that we must choose the thing that produces agape love in a situation. Freuds view is that conscience is the internalised demands of authority figures our parents. Durkheim believes conscience is influenced by society. Kohlberg believes there are 3 stages 2 substages the first preconventional stage where you are rewarded for right conventional and post conventional. Consciense is the moral sense of the individual which develops through life it ultimately reaches the rational stage.
