Self supporting stack • Lateral forces transmitted to foundation by cantilever action. • Lower portion of steel chimney is widened or flared for providing large base. • Constructed for diameter of 10 m and ht. of 50 – 100 meter.(approx.) 2. Guyed steel stacks • In which mild steel wire ropes or guys are attached to transmit the lateral force such as wind , seismic termed as Guyed stack or chimney. • Constructed for smaller height. Chimney lining • To protect chimney from heat • Lining material(vitrobestos , fire and refractory bricks) should be capable with standing in high temperature up to 1100 Celsius or 2000 F. • self supporting stacks are usually lined throughout the full height of chimney.
