What should they do?
Nasrin has a big brother named Bashir. Nasrin thinks that Bashir bosses her around too much. Before
they went to sleep, they had a big fight. Nasrin stopped talking to Bashir. Bashir stopped talking to
Nasrin. In the morning, they ate breakfast together before they went to school. What should either
Bashir or Nasrin say to each other? What do you think that will do?
1. What is the problem here?
They are angry and are not talking to each other.

Why do you think we as Muslims should say good words to each other?
It is part of our religion to say good words to each other. When we say good words to each other, we
make other people happy.

Muslims should greet each other by saying “As-Salaamu Alaikum”. One should respond
with “Wa-Alaikumus Salaam”. The response of Salaam has the similar reward as of saying
salaam. Saying salaam is the Sunnah but its response is a Fard. Our beloved Prophet
Muhammad (SAW) said: “The person closest to Allah is the one who precedes others with
greetings” (Abu Dawud). The greeting is one of the best things in Islam as Holy Prophet (PBUH)
made spreading of Salaam a part of faith.

In Riyad as-Salihin Book 6, Hadith 851 Imran Bin Husain reported Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬as saying:
As-Salamu ‘Alaikum (may you be safe from evil). Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬responded to his greeting
and the man sat down. The Prophet (‫ )ﷺ‬said, “Ten (meaning the man had earned the merit of ten
good acts).”
Another one came and said: “As-Salamu ‘Alaikum wa Rahmatullah (may you be safe from evil, and
Mercy of Allah be upon you).” Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬responded to his greeting and the man sat
down. Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said, “Twenty.”
A third one came and said: “As-Salamu ‘Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu (may you be safe
from evil, and the Mercy of Allah and His Blessings be upon you).” Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬responded
to his greeting and the man sat down. Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬said, “Thirty.”
By doing the act of giving the salam, a Muslim gets the rewards for good deeds.

my soul, you will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one
another. Shall I not tell you of something which, if you do it, you will love one another? Spread (the
