Remove all batteries 2. Wait 10 seconds 3. Replace batteries, making sure polarity (+ / -) is correct 5 CONFIDENTIAL How does the Roost Smart Leak Detector detect water? 1. Audible alarm sounds when both silver ring contacts on bottom of Leak Detector get wet 2. Device connects to Roost Cloud and audible alarm sent to user’s smartphone indicating leak or presence of water 3. Customer needs to dry off silver ring contacts, especially the space between them, to silence the alarm. The device also checks temperature and humidity via integrated sensor 6 CONFIDENTIAL The detector is not always connected to Wi-Fi • The Roost Smart Leak Detector checks in with the Roost Cloud once every 24 hours. • Except the first 24 hours (8 check ins) • Otherwise it is in a state of “watchful waiting” for leaks, or out-of-range temperature or humidity • When the device senses water, or an out-ofrange temperature or humidity, it wakes up and connects to the Roost Cloud, then sends a notification to the owner’s smartphone 7 CONFIDENTIAL Conceptual level: How does the Leak Detector Work? Roost Leak detector connects via home Wi-Fi to… …the Cloud Wi-Fi Event Manager Data Repository Smart Leak Detector Cloud Set-up: The Leak Detector uses the “set up sound” made by the phone to make an initial connection to the customer’s Wi-Fi network. App 8 CONFIDENTIAL What happens when a customer sets up a Leak Detector? STEP 1: User enters name, email, phone, device name in Roost app STEP 2: From phone App gets: 1. SSID (name) of Access Point (or Wi-Fi router) 2. SSID PW entered in app 3. User info Token Leak Detector listens via a Piezo transducer (sound) Leak Detector connects to cloud and passes token back STEP 3: App makes phone make “set up sound” (encoded audio) with token Token Cloud connects user account w/ battery 9 CONFIDENTIAL Why does the homeowner need this device? • Peace-of-mind – Especially when away – Monitoring places not in daily view • Prevent damage to personal property • Avoid hassle associated with a water leak – Contractors in home – Disruption to schedule – Time away from regular activities 10 CONFIDENTIAL Recommended location placements • Key Questions: • Where are the historical origination sources of water leak claims @ pure? • Are there historical pipe freezing considerations with the client? • What is the age of client’s hot water heater? • Typical placements: • • • • • • Hot water heater (especially if > 8 years old) Kitchen sink Toilets Refrigerator (ice maker) Dishwasher Washing machine 11 CONFIDENTIAL Getting started with setup • Need homeowner’s smartphone – Wi-Fi turned on – Connected to 2.4 GHz • • • • Need homeowner’s Wi-Fi password Roost special pure “lunch box” Roost Smart Water Leak & Freeze Detector Roost mobile app on homeowner’s smartphone 12 CONFIDENTIAL pure field set up • Open the “lunch box” • Place the Roost leak detector in the foam slot, logo up and sound holes down • Find the 3.5 mm phone jack associated with the lunchbox speaker • Plug this into the homeowner’s smartphone 13 CONFIDENTIAL Leak Detector LED & audio status State / actions LED on device Sound from device Self-test success (after hard reset) Solid green for 3 seconds One second beep Self-test fail Solid red for 3 seconds Two beeps Unit non-functional (replace unit) Solid orange Silent Ready for provisioning (after hard reset) Green blink while in set up Silent mode Successful set up Solid green for 3 seconds One beep Audio communication issue during set up 2 red blinks 2 beeps Password or SSID error 4 red blinks 4 beeps Other connectivity issues at provisioning 6 red blinks 6 beeps Water detected Red blink, repeating Repeating 5, 3 seconds of silence Normal operation LED off Silent 14 CONFIDENTIAL Set up - Issue 1 • Device doesn’t hear audio signal clearly: 0 beeps or 2 beeps + 2 red blinks • • • • Device must be in set up mode (LED blinking green) Granite / glass surface – may not work well Phone case left on phone Device sensitive to percussive noises – hears louder than set up tone • Doesn’t like you moving phone around (Doppler effect) • Phone signal too loud (iPhone 7, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge) 15 CONFIDENTIAL Set up - Issue 2 • Device doesn’t connect to local Wi-Fi network: 4 beeps + 4 red blinks • • • • User entered password for Wi-Fi incorrectly in app SSID error: not a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band No Wi-Fi signal User may have Wi-Fi security WPA2-PSK/AES enabled (contact Roost Support) 16 CONFIDENTIAL Set up - Issue 3 • Device doesn’t connect to Internet RARE: 6 beeps + 6 red blinks • Device finds and connects to Wi-Fi router, but cannot reach the internet • Internet may be down or there may be an issue specific to an Internet Service Provider • User has wrong password (only if using WEP security) 17 CONFIDENTIAL Troubleshooting table Quick Troubleshooting Guide • Prior to trying to connect the leak detector to your Wi-Fi network, make sure it is in setup mode (the LED on the cover must be blinking green). If the LED is not blinking green, please reset your leak detector (see below). • If the leak detector is not successful in connecting, it will make short beeps and the LED will blink red. These are error codes. Number of beeps / red LED blinks 0 or 2 What it means What to do Leak detector cannot hear phone 4 6 Wi-Fi password is incorrect Phone is not connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band Wi-Fi signal is poor Verify and re-enter your Wi-Fi password in the Roost app Change the network connection on your smartphone to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band Move closer to your Wi-Fi router Make sure your connection to the internet is working. Your leak detector cannot get from your Wi-Fi network to the internet and Roost Cloud Confirm LED blinking green (setup mode) Remove smartphone cover Insure leak detector sound holes are near phone speaker (see photo in app) OR Lay the end of the smartphone with the speaker directly on top of the sound holes on the top cover of the detector Set up on wood or wood-like surface 18 CONFIDENTIAL Help is just a phone call away! • • • • • Call Roost Support 650-200-2325 Call Kim Graf 949-468-8651 (PDT) Email support@getroost.com In app help – click on “troubleshooting” link Web-based help: getroost.com/support 19 CONFIDENTIAL Additional Roost information APPENDIX 20 CONFIDENTIAL After set up: What does the Cloud do? The Cloud initiates notifications to users • Alarm events • Device detects, connects to cloud, sends alert • Cloud sends push notification to (Apple, Google) push servers (cellular/Wi-Fi) for number • User opens app, app connects, reads status from cloud • In app – Device power status (low, critical) • In app – Wi-Fi signal strength • In app – Device check-in status • In app – Device temperature, humidity 21 CONFIDENTIAL Check in with the Cloud The device initiates ALL communication It has an internal clock—Every 24 hours it “wakes up” and checks in with the cloud. • • • • • Cloud records device checked in and data from device. DEVICE checks – is there anything for me? Firmware update? If there is a FW update, device initiates download Cloud CANNOT initiate contact with device. Cloud tells device when to check in next. “Hi, I’m sensor ID # (tied to MAC address). My power is {{z}} mV. My RSSI is -55. I’m connected to {{SSID name}}, temperature {{x}}, humidity {{y}}.
