Remember class that verbs, unlike nouns, have the S-form of
the word for the singular form and the base form for its plural
form. Please take a look at the example:
Example:
S-form(singular):
Sings, dances, writes, eats
Ask: Give some more examples.

Now we will move on with the lesson regarding the rules on
the Subject – Verb Agreement.
1.
A verb agrees with its subject in number.
Singular subjects take singular verbs.
The car stays in the garage.
The flower smells good.
Now, give me your own example
Plural subjects take plural verbs.
Jay and Jerold are best friends.
The boys play basketball.
Now, give me your own example
2.
The verb agrees only with its subject. Words between
subject and verb do not affect the number of the subject.
(intervening phrase)
One of the eggs is broken.
The women in the pool swim well.
Now, give me your own example
3.
Some subjects always take a singular verb even
though the meaning may seem plural.
These subjects always take singular verbs:
each
someone
either
anyone
neither
nobody
one
somebody
no one
everyone
anybody
everybody
Examples:
Someone in the game was (not were) hurt.
Neither of the men is (not are) working.
Everybody was (not were) asked to remain quiet.
Nobody is (not are) absent today.
Now, give me your own example
4.
The following words may be singular or plural,
depending upon their use in a sentence; some, any, all, most.
Examples:
Most of the news is good. (singular)
Most of the flowers were yellow. (plural)

G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills
in daily living
Begin by showing the Study.com video lesson Verb
Tense & Subject-Verb Agreement, pausing at 0:28.
Ask the students to write the sentences displayed in
the video lesson on their papers.
Resume the video and pause again at 0:42.
On their papers, have students underline the singular
subjects in purple and the plural subjects in yellow.
Now have them rewrite the sentences with
corrections just below the first two sentences. Have
them share their answers with the class, along with
an explanation for the corrections.
Resume the video lesson, pausing at 1:33. Did the
suggested corrections match the student corrections?
Discuss this as a class.
Play the video lesson again, pausing at 2:53. Taking
the current displayed sentence, have students make
the sentence plural, sharing their answers with the
class.
Play the video lesson once more, pausing at 3.00. Did
the student's sentence match the one on screen?
Play the reminder of the video lesson for the class.
When the video lesson has played in its entirety, ask student
to compose ten original sentences on their papers. Now have
them swap papers with a classmate.
Students should underline the singular subjects in purple and
the plural subjects in yellow on their peer's paper. They must
also ensure that there is subject-verb agreement in each
sentence.
Finally, students should correct any errors they see. When
complete, the student should return the paper to its owner
and discuss any changes.
Choose the correct verb in each of the sentences.
1. Your friend (talk-talks) too much.
2. The man with the roses (look-looks) like your brother.
