ENSCI Link Between Science and Technology Genetic Engineering The scientific knowledge used as basis for the development of genetic engineering is the combination of genetic material, especially recombinant DNA (rDNA), from different biological species to create a hybrid DNA into an organism and form a new combination of heritable genetic material. It is the artificial process of giving a desired phenotype to an organism’s genome. The science in genetic engineering is the identification of genetic materials itself—which is present in one organism and is possible to provide solutions or prevent birth defects and diseases. While the technology is the process of direct manipulation or modification of these DNA to form a hybrid and to alter the genetic makeup of an organism. The artificial outcome of genetic engineering like the insect resistant corns are also classified as technology.
