Murder Mystery Name: _________________________ Class: ___________ Police Report 2nd February 2022 This morning at 7:49am, at BigPharm pharmaceutical laboratories, Dr Frank Butler (lead research scientist in the Tumor Treatment Division) was found dead in his laboratory. He was collapsed on the ground, with foam coming from his mouth, and appeared to have been dead since late the previous evening (approximately 8pm). He was found by one of his Research Assistants (RA), Vania Davis, as she came into the lab to start work at 7:49am, she immediately called the police. The last person to see him was his other research assistant, Anton Volkov, as he left the lab at 5:50pm the previous evening (1st) and has said that Dr Butler was the only person left in the lab. The security cameras had been cut to the building at approximately 4:09pm due to an external hacking software and is thought to be due to the killer. Therefore, it is unable to be determined who walked in and out of the lab after this time. There is a piece of evidence missing, misplaced by a police officer. You must try and find it as it will provide an important clue to help you solve the case. Review the evidence, gather the suspects, examine the physical evidence (the three powders, which one is the murder weapon?), and draw conclusions on who might be the killer. Evidence Analysis Timeline: Construct a timeline of the 1st and 2nd of February. 1|Page Comparison: The Scientific Method and Solving Crimes processes are very similar. In the table, write how the steps of the Scientific Method were followed when solving the Murder Mystery. The Scientific Method Solving Crimes Observe (what observations were made?) Question (what questions came to mind at the start?) ⭐️ Hypothesise (what did you predict?) ⭐️ Experiment (how did you test your prediction?) Analyse (how did you interpret your results?) ⭐️ Conclude (using your findings/evidence, what happened?) Report (how would you communicate your conclusion?) 2|Page
