But long periods of using a computer can increase your chance of developing an injury. Inappropriate computer use can cause muscle and joint pain, overuse injuries of the shoulder, arm, wrist or hand, and eyestrain. Children can experience particular physical and psychological problems if they play computer games too much. You can reduce or avoid these risks with the correct furniture, better posture and good habits, such as taking rest breaks and restricting time spent playing computer games. RSI - Repetetive Strain Injuries Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - Pain in the forearm and wrist. This is caused by prolonged use of mouse or typing. caused by pressure on the median nerve. Dry-Eye : Looking at the computer screen for long time causes reduced blinking of eye lids and thus drying of eye balls. Blinking is an important reflex which results in the secretion of tears. A low blink rate increases the risk of dry eye and associated problems. Earlier, dry-eye was an age-related problem and a side-effect of menopause. Older people suffer from the disease due to an overall weakening of bodily functions. However, with an increase in the use of smartphones, it is largely affecting youngsters too. o Take regular breaks, Use anti-glare screen over monitor, Take break and look at a faraway object to relax eyes Posture Related Problems Neck pain and Lower back pain - This is caused by sitting in front of computer for long time. o Take regular break, get up and walk around Use ergonomically designed chair Maintain correct posture Position keyboard, mouse and monitor. Technology is a phenomenon that seems to be uncontrollable. Despite the so many benefits for teaching and learning, there are also negative effects or influence on the learners. Hence as future teachers, you have to be aware of how to safeguard learners in the school communities where they spend most of their waking hours and also in their homes or facilities that provide opportunities to use digital technologies like Internet Cafes. Safeguard and protection should be the primordial role of parents, teachers and schools. There are so many risks that we have to be aware of in the use of digital technologies. These may include the following: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. In marked contrast to older generations who may not understand how touchscreens work, kids today presume that everything works with a swipe. This can be challenging for parents, particularly when it comes to keeping their children safe on the web. Even though lawmakers and regulators may think they understand what kids are doing online and on social media, the ever-changing nature of technology constantly presents new dangers. With all the above concerns and many more, how do we confront all of these to protect our future generation? e-safety takes care not only of the internet technologies but also of electronic communications via mobile phones, games consoles and wireless technology. It highlights the need to educate children and young people about the benefits, risks, and responsibilities of using information technology. Here are some advantages of e-safety: E-safety helps safeguard children and young people in the digital world. E-safety emphasizes learning to understand and new technologies in a positive way. E-safety educates children about the risks as well as the benefits so we can feel confident online; and E-safety supports young learners and adults to develop safer online behaviors, both in and out of school C.
