Hey guys! My name is Daynel and I am the
owner of In Style Boutique & Hair.
Although my company is just 3 years old, I
have been able to open a physical store in
Jamaica, get my products in beauty supply
stores, and have beauty vending machines
across the USA. Like every business, I too
have experienced a lot of hardships but I
NEVER gave up. I approached every
situation as just another obstacle I had to
overcome. Another thing I realized about
the beauty industry is that yes, it is
saturated but the key is to be CREATIVE
and find ways to make your brand stand
out. Once you can do that, you will find it
is so much easier to make money!
Getting your products into your local BSS
is a great way to stand out. Everyone is
selling their products either through their
website, their social media outlets, or
other marketplaces such as Etsy or
Amazon. But if you can get your products
into a physical location, that will look so
cont.
portfolio and will set your brand apart. In
this E-Book, I will be showing you how to
do just that. So get ready and take notes!
Thank you once again for purchasing my
E-book and I look forward to hearing
your success stories!

FINDING YOUR PRODUCT
First things first! You need to know what
products you are going to carry. Whether
it is a product that you will make yourself
or a product that you will outsource.
Alibaba.com is one of the biggest online
commerce companies in the world with
tons of vendors selling beauty products
that you can outsource from. Download
the app, make an account, and search
for your product. You also need to make
sure it is a product that your BSS would
want to carry. It would be products like
lashes, edge control, edge control
brushes, hair growth oils, lip balms, lip
scrubs, body scrubs, lace glue, lace glue
remover, lipsticks, and other beautyrelated products. If you're still not sure
what product to choose, visit your local
BSS.
Take a look around and see what type of
products they have in there. Now imagine
your own version of that same product. Think
about how you can make it better. What
ingredients can you use differently? Or how
can you package it differently?
Once you have figured that out, have a family
member, friend, or anyone else that is willing
to help out, sample your product. You want
to have received positive feedback from
them. If you haven't received positive
feedback, then that means you need to
continue researching, testing, and perfecting
your product until it is up to standard. Once
that is done, you want to start on your
packaging. Your packaging is a very important
factor if you want to capture the eyes of store
owners and shoppers. The look of your
product can either MAKE or BREAK the deal
with your BSS so make sure you put a lot of
thought into it.
SCORING LOCATIONS &
PERFECTING YOUR PITCH
Now that you have gotten your product and
packaging down, you need to prepare and
perfect your pitch for your potential locations.
Start by googling ten of the nearest beauty
supply stores to you. Write them down on a
sheet of paper with their addresses and
phone numbers. These are now your leads
that you will hopefully convert into your
customers. For the ones that are farther away
from you, you can call them. For the ones that
are closer to you, you can visit them in person.
Here is the script for both:
Phone Call:
Hello, Good Afternoon my name is (your
name) and I am with (your company name).
Am I speaking with the owner? (if you are then
proceed) The reason for my call is that I
wanted to know if you would be interested in
carrying (your product) at your store.
Begin to tell the store owner about your
product and how beneficial it would be for
them if they carried it. Offer to discuss it further
by visiting their store so that they can see your
product in person.
In-Person:
(make sure you go there on the day the owner
is there. The employee cannot make the
decision!)
Hello, Good Afternoon my name is (your name)
and I am with (your company name). Could I
just chat with you a bit about our (your
product)?
Important Tips!
1. Be confident! If you're not sure about your
product then how can they be?
2. Wear your company shirt. If you don't have
one yet, dress business casual. You always want
to look presentable when conducting business.
3. Carry a sales sheet! This will have pictures of
your products, the different colors, styles, or
the manufacturer’s suggested retail price.
4. Bring your business cards.
5. Mention how much people love your
product and by them carrying your product
in their store, the foot traffic will increase
because your fans will be stopping by to
purchase as well. (they love to hear this!)
6. Don’t leave without a contact number for
the owner so that you can follow up with
them later on just in case they don't want to
carry your product right now.
7. Don’t get discouraged if you hear a no. A
no could mean you need to perfect your
product and once you do they will carry it. A
no could mean they don't have the income
right now to take on your product but in the
future they will. A no could mean they just
want to think about it some more so you
may need to follow up with them in a few
weeks. So find out why they are saying no
and work on it. Don’t give up so easily! For
every five NO’s there will be that one YES. So
keep going until you hear that YES!
NEGOTIATING PAYMENT
STRUCTURE
You have two ways you can negotiate your
payment structure. The first one is the
preferred method, Cash On Delivery. And the
second is the least favorite method,
Consignment.
Cash on Delivery is when the owner pays you
for the product once it is delivered. Once you
have agreed on the wholesale price and the
number of pieces the owner wants you will
then deliver those items and the owner will
pay you in full.
Consignment is the least preferred method
because the owner does not pay you until
the items sell. Some owners suggest this
method because they want to see how good
your product will sell before they commit to
buying a large amount. This method has its
pros and cons.
One con is that you won't get your money
upfront. Another con is that if the items are
stolen, you will take a loss. However, that can
be prevented if you have an agreement
(contract) with the seller that they are
responsible for any lost or stolen items. One
pro is that if your product does well, it will
encourage the owner to start purchasing the
items from you upfront. Another pro is that
hundreds of shoppers are seeing your
products which creates more brand
awareness.
Always aim to use the COD method. If the
owner just won't budge, then use the
consignment method as a last resort with a
contract! Remember this is your business and
you choose the terms and conditions.
MOVE IN DAY
Now that you have secured your location, you
are now ready for your MOVE IN DAY! YAY!
Tip: To present your products even better, you
can get what is called a POP (point of
purchase) display to display your products. A
professionally done poster would be a great
addition as well.
Let your followers on your social media
accounts know they are now able to shop
your products at the local beauty supply store.
Send an email blast to your subscribers and
spread the word to your family and friends.
Continue to follow up with the owner to see if
your products are running low on stock so
that you can keep them refilled. You should
never have a low inventory!
