Eau Claire Scavenger Hunt – ***Due – 11/16 at 12:30 PM in Canvas*** * *No Late Assignments (35 pts)** This exercise is designed to help you 1) read a map, 2) lead you in discovering many cultural/geographic features around downtown Eau Claire, as well as to 3) introduce you to downtown Eau Claire and the many services and opportunities it offers. This exercise will take you approximately 2 1/2 hours to walk, much less to bike. The route provided on the map is only to serve as a guide. You need to include 3 pictures of something you see on the way (*You need to be in the picture as well). Explain why you took each picture. Start near the middle of campus, there is a statue of a person dancing, what is the name of that statue? 2. Look to your North across the river, there is a large red brick building that has lovely tunes, what is the name of this building? 3. Cross the footbridge, there is a sculpture of that sort of looks like a bird. Look at the plaque underneath, who made this sculpture? What do these names represent? 4. Walk along the sidewalk to the walking path past the parking lot. There is an academic building along this path, what is the name of this building? 5. There is a statue of something outside near Subway, what is this a statue of? 6. Continue walking west down Water Street. There is a restaurant/café, Physics majors would find interest in this name, what is the name of this store (on the south side of Water Street). 7. Continuing west on Water Street, walk until you get to 5th Ave. There is a store on the corner of the NW block of 5th Ave. and Water Street. What is this store is this? 8. Go back to 6th Ave. and go north until you hit Niagara Street. Take a right (or go east). You will soon arrive at a park. What is the person’s name that is inscribed beneath the statue? 9. Now go east down Broadway toward Owen Park. At the end of Broadway, you will see a playground in the park near the bike path facing west. How many Swings are there in this playground (count them all)? 10. Walk north up Oxford Ave and go east at the stop sign at 2nd Ave. and continue down Grand Ave. As you walk East on Grand Ave. there is a place (South) you can buy flowers. What is the name of this store? 11. On W. Grand Ave, name the restaurant a few buildings down from the Grand Ave Café. What is the special on Thursday night at this restaurant (2 pts)? 12. Continue walking north along the west side of the river and you will soon come to an old railroad bridge. Cross the bridge and you will see the big RCU building (Royal Credit Union). To the north you can see a green-roofed structure with a clock in the center of the plaza. What is the name of this park/plaza? 13. There is Large Company/Business building just to the east of this plaza (NOT THE APARTMENTS), they also have an air filling station. What is the name of this business? (1 pt) 14. On the next block there are Orange apartments, what is the restaurant just next door (to the east) ? 15. Locate Barstow street and continue southwards (past Galloway St.). There is a kids themed store, what is the name of this? 16. Continue South down Barstow, cross the bridge to Eau Claire Street. What river do you cross? 17. Go east when you get to Eau Claire Street. What building, diagonal from the large Parking Garage, is on the corner of Farewell Street and Eau Claire Street? 18. Continue down Farwell St. and go W/SW down Gibson Street. Then go South down Barstow. You will pass a hotel and a restaurant, what is the name of the Hotel and the Restaurant? (2 pts) 19. Continue down Farwell St and go west on Grand Ave. and then go South on Barstow Street. There is a Movie Theatre on the east side of the street. What is the name of this theatre? 20. Go back to Barstow and travel south. What is the name of the café on the corner of Barstow and Gray Street? 21. Go East on Gray Street back to Farwell and continue South on Farwell Street until you get to Lake Street. On the corner of Lake and Farwell there is an old Episcopal Church. When was it first built? (HINT: the original cornerstone is located on the northeast corner of the building, it is before the 1900s). 22. Continuing down lake, head down Graham Ave. There is a grand looking building (with large pillars), what is this building? Two buildings down there is a large building named after a bad 70s song, what is the place? (2 pt) 23. Continue South to Emery Street. Go east on Emery until you find a park. What is the name of this park? 24. Walk eastward through the park and then turn south on Barstow. At the intersection of State Street and Barstow, you will see a triangular lot on the east side of State. On State Street, there is a sign denoting this house as historic by the Eau Claire Landmarks Commission. What is the name of this house? 25. Continue South on State Street until Garfield Ave. (on campus). Continue to West on Garfield Ave. What is the name of Building on the corner of Garfield Ave. and Park Ave.? 26.
