Tourism file paper Post pandemic travel Current covid Situation As of 2021 the pandemic is still going with travel being allowed but with restrictions, many countries are open for international arrivals that have some sort of covid safety certificate (recovery, vaccination or covid test) although not all safety certificates are valid everywhere for example the sputnik or Sinovac or antigen test are not universally accepted in some countries. The current trend shows that restrictions are unpredictable as governments change them based on the covid numbers of the moment, planning far ahead without insurance is a thing of the past following this situation. What the traveler wants has completely changed, personal needs are priority instead of destination. The decision to travel will be mostly based safety, flight availability and the strictness of rules of the arrival destination (Meir, 2021). Recovery of travel post the pandemic Local and domestic travel is the first to recover, it is unknown when the travel industry will fully recover as of now next to seasonal restrictions being laid by local governments for international travel. Full recovery is highly depended on many factors (vaccination rate, hygiene, eagerness to open) These seasonal restrictions lead to unpredictable fluctuations making travel only possible for a period of time with limited airline seats and increase in price during it. Travel plans are depended on accessibility and speed of restrictions. Travel companies will have to capitalize on these seasonal fluctuations to stay profitable although it will not be a cheap option for the casual travellers to do so. Travel changes post the pandemic The popular types of tourism post covid is most likely going to be: travel visiting friend/relatives, volunteer tourism where volunteers visit a destination to provide humanitarian work since the covid fallout and peace tourism to contribute to a destinations effort to establish the peace (Antoniou, 2021) Business travel will be fewer in amount but longer in stay, the leisure traveller will have high expectations for services providing and prioritizing wellness, health and wellbeing. As previously described expectations are different as the travel is expected to be more personal based, following such this urges the travel industry to rethink its approach allowing it to seek new opportunities and improve upon approaches to satisfy the new expectations of the traveller. Management of the travel industry will have to consider the following: what is the visitor profile of the post pandemic traveller? (Background, reasons for travel), what new networks can be established to reach travellers? what are new opportunities for sources of income (combining new safety features with the destination), type of staff and housing for staff, operations and automation of operations. On top of that all that attitude and behaviour change is also to be expected after the pandemic. Traveling while having any flu like symptoms is a new taboo because of this a lot more no-shows are expected to happen. transportation by ground is more attractive for domestic tourism instead of by airplanes for health and safety reasons. Airline companies will compete and promote their hygiene with new filtering system that appeals to the traveller of the post covid world. Sources Bibliography Antoniou, K. (2021, 04 09).
